And it's become, you know, practically a sport in itself to ridicule whatever plan they have. Well, what do you have? What you got? Malik Willis right now would be mine. Do I feel great about that? No. Do you have a plan out there that you feel really good about? And if you say Will Howard, that's fine. But if you feel really good about that, you're out of your mind. You can't possibly feel great or really good about, yeah, the Steelers' next quarterback is going to be Will Howard.
Let's get that moving. I'm not saying it won't work and it's not a shot at Will Howard. I'm saying if that's the best plan you have, you can't possibly feel very good about it. I don't feel great about Malik Willis. I love the way he played over really a couple games that we saw this season in his last 11 appearances, which includes three starts over the last two years. He went 2-1. He completed 79% of his passes, and it wasn't dink and dunk. That's in those three starts, 11 appearances. 972 yards, six touchdowns, zero interceptions, and we all know he can run. 261 yards, three touchdowns, 6.2 yards per attempt. Passer rating 135. He came in for Jordan Love against the Bears on December 20th. We were probably a lot of us watching that game or certainly seeing the highlights.
And then he played against the Ravens the next week. Saw that too.

His overall numbers in those two games against two decent teams. 27 for 32, 409 yards, two touchdowns, no picks, plus 114 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Yeah, I'm intrigued. I'm also desperate. You become intrigued with a lot of things when you're desperate. No matter what facet of life we're talking about. You'll shoot back. I mean, it was only two games, three starts, 11 appearances, whatever it was. And I'll say, I know. You'll say that history is replete with quarterbacks who were lavished with big contracts based on small sample size, and it turned out horribly. Matt Flynn, Rob Johnson, the list goes on. And I'll say, I know. I know that. I'm desperate. So are you. So are the Steelers. Give me a better plan.
At least I'm intrigued with Malik Willis. At least I just saw him play really great football over a couple games against decent opponents. There's not a horrific track record yet. I mean, in Tennessee it was bad, but that was Tennessee. Who's good in Tennessee? So it beats the Will Howard plan for me. It does. And it wouldn't exactly bankrupt the franchise, even upwards of 15, 20 million for a couple of years. They've got plenty of cap space. They need a quarterback, period, period. They can switch. Now they've switched head coaches. The argument used to be with Tomlin, man, they've switched everything else except the head coach. Now they've switched everything but still can't find a quarterback. And the quarterback's more important than the coach anyway.
The Steelers need a franchise quarterback, period. I'm open to Ty Simpson, especially when I learn that Sean McVay is interested in him, which appears to be the case.
