You are listening live to the program. Your teams, your town, your program. Swing and a high fly ball, right field deep. That's way back into the corner. She's sailing. She is gone. Home run, Jaron Duran. What a night for him. A three-run shot here in Kansas City. He makes it 6-1 with a blast in the night.

51.061 - 59.674 Kyle

Mitchell right side of three is up.

59.694 - 85.628 Unknown

Pitch good. It is 92 to 71. Cleveland at the eight minute mark. A few moments later. And it'll be straight on. Throws to the right wing. Shamit puts it on. And it falls. It hit the rim twice. It dropped in to tie it up at 99 with 40 seconds left. And the game is over. One of the greatest comebacks in playoff history.

85.649 - 92.897 Unknown

Trailing by 22 in the fourth quarter, the Knicks come storming back in the largest playoff comeback win since 1970.

94.936 - 101.222 Curtis Seabolt

And now, a man who thinks the NBA is fantastic, Seren Petro. Right you are, Kay.

101.262 - 127.908 Soren Petro

Right you are. Petro on the program on Sports Radio 810 WHB. Thank you for joining us here today, a Wednesday. Looks like somebody's got a case of the Wednesdays. Nothing better than beautiful weather and getting out of the studio. We're on the road today. Come see us. We're on the northwest corner of College and Corvair. We're right around the bend. From the Curtis Siebold Home Hen House.

128.128 - 134.439 Curtis Seabolt

Yep. That's my jam. That's there at least a couple times a week.

134.459 - 157.173 Soren Petro

Yeah, you can't beat it. And we're here at CBD American Shaman is where we are. This is, you know, this is our return. You know, the last time we were at this CBD American Shaman location, you weren't here. Correct. I was here. Blair Kirkoff was here. I don't know why you weren't here, but you weren't here. And... This is where we broke the news that the Kansas City Chiefs were moving to Kansas.

Chapter 2: How does the host feel about the Royals' recent performance?

503.377 - 524.062 Curtis Seabolt

He always has trivia questions when I come in. Oh, what do you have for me? He had, I can't remember what it was last. I got it right. I can't remember this one. Maybe that's why I don't remember because I got it right. But we got to talking, and he said he listens to the program every week, loves Blair, he loves the drill, and he just loves the whole deal.

0

524.082 - 538.418 Curtis Seabolt

So, Greg, if you're listening today out there, thank you for listening. That's awful nice. I talk to him every Tuesday. And we kind of just started chatting about sports and the show. And so we got a fan at the K. Well, thank you.

0

538.678 - 551.033 Soren Petro

I appreciate that. And, you know, appreciate everybody listening here today. And hopefully you get a chance to stop by CBD American Chalmers. Say hello today. And we'll talk about the finer points of base running.

0

552.515 - 554.458 Curtis Seabolt

Where would we get those examples, though?

0

558.342 - 576.309 Soren Petro

You know, do you – do we – I mean, what what what is so hard about running the bases at the big league level? You're a big league player. Why is it so difficult?

578.852 - 602.86 Curtis Seabolt

It shouldn't be unless you're being asked to run in situations where you shouldn't be running. or two, unless you're not running out of the box like you should be. Right. Which was an admission last night, which we'll hear from Michael Garcia through his interpreter, Luis Perez. But it also, if you listen to Matt Quintero, sounds like they're Not done doing it.

603.882 - 620.81 Soren Petro

Let's do it. Let's hear from Matt Cotrero because I tweeted this out last night. This is where I do have, you know, I will sit here and defend Matt Cotrero's lineups, his batting orders. Not that I necessarily agree with him, but that there is logic and reason behind what they're doing. But I do not get where their head is when it comes to running the bases.

620.87 - 624.696 Soren Petro

Last night, Matt Cotrero was asked about the aggressiveness on the bases.

624.929 - 636.062 Matt Cotrero

Yeah. Well, I mean, start with, with Lane in the first inning, you know, the hustle double getting to second base, setting up a second and third situation there. So that was, that was a positive from him going hard out of the box.

Chapter 3: Why is base running considered a critical skill in baseball?

1982.159 - 2007.219 Kyle

I got to watch it on the app on my phone. Or not watch it, but on my Facebook app. You guys did a great show yesterday and another great show today. So I just want to compliment that first TV, Saran and Curtis. So I don't have the stats in front of me because I'm driving, but Salvi is batting 100. And what's his age? 36? 36? Yes.

0

2009.382 - 2010.203 Soren Petro

Yes, 36.

0

2014.589 - 2036.355 Kyle

I don't understand, Saran. Maybe you answered this question yesterday, so I'm going to ask this. Why is he batting in the lineup almost every single day when we have Carter Jensen, who's a young guy? I like to see him at bat. My point is this. I'm going to make this point real quick. We're just not scoring runs.

0

2036.375 - 2059.847 Kyle

And you have Vinny and Salve who are supposed to be our guys, our cleanup guys that are supposed to hit. And they're, what, is Pasquantino hitting like 200 and Salve batting somewhere around 100? I don't have the stats in front of me. But this is getting to the point of why are we doing this? Why is, I just don't understand the manager's concept.

0

2060.283 - 2084.778 Soren Petro

Well, sorry. Go ahead, Kyle. Sorry. Well, what I was going to say was that, you know, I think that, first of all, for the numbers, Vinny is batting 194 with a 279 on base, and Salve's 199 with a 249 on base. They did move Vinny Pasquantino down to seven last night. He was 0 for 3 with a walk, two strikeouts. Salve batted third against the left-hander.

2084.818 - 2101.799 Soren Petro

He was 0 for 2 but did walk twice, so he at least got on base a couple of times. I mean, I have defended, and I understand it, and it's why I'm saying that, like, we're getting to the point to where – There will be no defense. Those guys have done it. I understand them saying we believe in these guys. They've done it in the past. We're going to do it.

2102.16 - 2124.708 Soren Petro

I'm fine with that as long as you're playing for something. But they're very quickly taking that off the table. And at that point, you need to be about – You know, maximizing the at-bats, put Jack Caglione higher just because he'll get more at-bats. He'll get more experience, if not for the reason that Jack Caglione is hitting .246 and .314 on base.

Chapter 4: What insights does Matt Cotrero provide about base running decisions?

2125.108 - 2150.297 Soren Petro

Still not great, but better than what those guys are. And so, yeah, it's... You know, the justification is, and I appreciate the call, Kyle, the justification is that those guys have been there and done it. Both of them last year, I think they were both 30 and 100 last year, 30 home runs, 100 RBIs. They have been there and done it, but they're not doing it now. And there is no good answer.

0

2151.239 - 2184.984 Soren Petro

This team does not go to the playoffs without those guys being at least 20 plus and 85 plus. And so if you're looking at it, and the metrics say that Salve's bat is slowing down, and if he is just growing old in front of your eyes, he's not going to grow younger. So Perez is the one that I think is the less likely one to turn things around. And at some point, they've got to come to grips with it.

0

2185.024 - 2190.81 Soren Petro

And it can't be because we'll hurt Salve's feelings is the reason why we're not sending him down the lineup.

0

2191.21 - 2204.278 Curtis Seabolt

There are 199 players in the major leagues this year who have at least 90 plate appearances with men on base. Vinny Pasquantino and Salvador Perez have the fourth and fifth lowest OPSs of those 199.

0

2205.079 - 2226.15 Soren Petro

Well, and Sam McDowell was telling us that they had the most opportunities with men on base. I mean, Bobby Wood Jr. is in front of them. Yeah. And they're not able to hit him in. So, yeah, it's incredibly, incredibly frustrating. 9133-810-810. Vicki, you're in the program. What's going on, Vicki?

2226.822 - 2229.725 Vicki

You know, I love you. Haven't called in a long time. Couldn't get in.

2229.785 - 2233.628 Soren Petro

Well, you're in now, Vicki. What do you got for us?

2233.728 - 2273.893 Vicki

My point is, we need to clean house. My God. We need to clean house. Boston did it. We can do it. I'm ashamed of the front office. I'm ashamed of our manager. In un- There's no words to explain except he's an idiot. He's a damn idiot. Well, I wouldn't go that far. He needs to go. No, he needs to go. The front office should be ashamed of the way this manager is not managing the team.

2274.293 - 2301.801 Vicki

We are a complete failure. There is no reason that he cannot inspire and put – people to produce. That is what a manager's job is. And he refuses to acknowledge that. He says, oh, well, I guess we should be aggressive a little bit. You know, what is the hell is that all about? What was that excuse? No more. The front office, Sherman needs to fire.

Chapter 5: What examples illustrate poor base running by the Royals?

2583.16 - 2583.781 Soren Petro

He's catching.

0

2584.001 - 2584.722 Curtis Seabolt

Elias.

0

2584.742 - 2590.32 Soren Petro

Elias Diaz. And Kyle Isbell playing center field. No. Vin Pasquantino.

0

2590.361 - 2590.762 Curtis Seabolt

No Vincent.

0

2591.223 - 2613.136 Soren Petro

No Vinny Pasquantino in this lineup. Salvador Perez at first base. He is the one playing first base. So they try a new lineup. We'll see how this one works tonight for your Kansas City Royals. We're at CBD American Shaman. Buy one, get one free here at College in Quivira. Stop on by, say hello. Going to be doing some giveaways as well.

2613.397 - 2621.599 Curtis Seabolt
