A little quieter than we thought? I don't think it was quieter than you thought. Certainly, I think the last time we talked, you were saying you thought it was going to maybe be a little bit disappointing. It wasn't going to be quite as maybe, you know, the frenzy that it could be. So I think it lived up to what you thought, or am I wrong?
I mean, there were 42 trades on the final day. It was a lot, but maybe it wasn't a lot of impact. I think that's what it was as much as anything. Tarek Scouble, one of the biggest deadline deals of this century. But beyond that, just in terms of impact, Jose Soriano... might have been the second most valuable player who was moved, and he went to a team in the Toronto Blue Jays that's not even trying to win this year. So there was that. There was a little bit of buy and sell from the Blue Jays that I thought was interesting, and everyone else just pretty much did what they should have for the most part. I thought the Rays got a whole lot better in getting Liam Hicks and Freddie Peralta and Tyler Wells.
I thought the Red Sox, it was very interesting going out and seeing what they did for Adley Rutschman. It was a hefty price. You know, Saran, one thing that I just appreciated about this deadline is there were teams that said, we want to go for it. And there are too many teams these days that I fear don't. And to me, the deadline is the great separator and differentiator when you're looking at who wants to win and who doesn't. It's not just the offseason. It's not how much you spend. It's when the team is actually playing. How much is the front office going to support them by adding?
Listen, I don't want to make it out to be that all the owners are valiant and doing everything they can, and it's for the greater good of their community and everything. I'm not trying to say that, but I hear that they want to win. And I'm sure the Brewers are one of the teams that don't want to win because they didn't go out and pay the price for Tarek Skubal. But I think it's important when we say things like that to point out the teams that wanted to win, in other words, did the kind of things that you're talking about, didn't get there and are now crashing and burning, like the San Diego Padres. Right? Like, they did everything.
Well, I think it's a surrender. We've had, like, one day of games since the deadline. I'm not going to go out on the crashing and burning thing.
No, I mean, I'm talking about three, four years ago. I'm talking about when they did. They signed Eric Hosmer. They signed Manny Machado. They signed Xander Bogarts. Contracts said at that time, I'm like, this Bogarts deal is going to be an utter disaster on the back end of it.
