Kiino was born and bred in Ngāti Kahungunu (aka) Hawke’s Bay. She started out as the Rangatahi Show announcer on local iwi radio station Radio Kahungunu in 2013 and as the saying goes, the rest is history. 9 years later and still counting, Kiino is still emceeing majority of local iwi events. Her proudest achievement to date as an iwi emcee is that she now shares the stage and events with keen and highly talented rangatahi who want to share in the spotlight too. Her whakaaro has always been, there is always room on the stage for those who want it most. We are so honoured to announce Kiino as our MC for Real Talk Te Matau a Māui – Hawkes Bay!We spoke about Kiino’s journey of emceeing and te reo, her identity crisis that lead to her renaming herself as Kiino to connect deeper with her identity, and breaking the cycle and the glass ceilings we see.
