Willis, it is a bittersweet time when we get to Spud's game each year. It is, Jim. It's sad to think.
We lost the great man nearly seven years ago, but it's a great reason to look back at some of our funniest moments with him.
So ahead of Spud's game tonight, we have picked out some classic material, including the infamous makeup gate, the time Spud was introduced as a doctor, and when he revealed your wig on air.
My head still itches sometimes from that, Jim. That bloody wig. But also, we remember when he launched the glass eye, and then he found out that your nephew, Angus.
Angus was swinging hands with his daughter, Danielle Jim, and he came straight for your head. I still don't understand how that was in any way my fault. Your fault. But first, we hear from another of Danny's magnificent daughters, Chelsea, who has been a driving force behind Spud's game.
Sunday night, we celebrate one of the most beloved footy players. Probably too strong and too good. And one of the most beloved members of Triple M.
And have a look at all the people in the other boxes with uh puppy dog eyes looking at us. They're flat. They're just uh they know they're just coming to a game and they're gonna get beat. Alaricin.
Who you felt like you knew. If you were gonna go to the pub today after work, you'd want to go with Spud. You know, you'd go along and he'd make the day for you. For this year's Spuds game, the message is we're better together. Because mental health isn't built alone. Your doctor is your first port of call and your partner and your mate. It's huge. Obviously we're in we're in the sixth year of Spud's game this year, which is just absolutely incredible to see the legacy that he left behind and we're we're building on it and this week has been Bigger than ever, we've we've launched with Spud Summit today at the Denning Frawley Centre, where we had, you know, government officials, mental health partners all gathering to talk about something that affects so many of us right across this country. Heading into the media round table tomorrow with the AFL, which is going to be an important moment for for our industry, and then head straight into Spud's ride on Friday. For everyone who knew Dad, he was a regular on the the Bayside circuit of riding and I I think he annoyed a lot of motorists, me, Jimmy.
A lot of motorists. And then obviously into the big um games on Sunday with the very first ever AFL and AFLW doubleheader.
And what a game, by the way. The blues are flying so and the Saints are going well. So it's actually side of how important it is a ripping game and AFLW beforehand.
Absolutely. We've um, you know, it's a it's a huge game for our club and obviously Calton Football Club as well. I think, you know, the most exciting bit is is seeing and being so close to the women's department at at the St Kilda Football Club and seeing, you know, the work that they've put in um over the years to build the culture that they've built and and to have this opportunity to launch the season at Marvel Stadium for Spuds game is just absolutely incredible.
