Thank you all for joining me in the studio. You were here live, so we had to have you on the show. Now, Cara was going to join us for this episode. She's going to join us remotely. But, you know, as you remember, she had surgery not too long ago. And she's going through a bit of a rough patch. She did want us to say that, you know, that Cara does struggle with depression. And she's having a depressive episode today. Partly due to hormones and the surgery and everything that's going on. She's dealing with it, but that has to be her priority this weekend to deal with that. And so she decided to not do the show. So we wish her well. She'll be back for next week's show. But we have six people instead of five to make up for it.
So as you all know, this episode, every year, this is our... Perry DeAngelis Memorial episode. And we also, that's, you know, the Nexus actually, before it was Nexus, it was just the Perry DeAngelis Memorial SGO episode. Then it basically morphed into Nexus and we kept it as the episode where we remember our lost rogue Perry. Dan, that was 15 years ago, guys.
Oh my gosh.
Right? He was with us for two years. And it's been 15 years since he was on the show. It's just unbelievable. And, of course, we remember many of the friends that we lost along the way, David Young, Michael Sell, Michael Orticelli, all lost too young too soon, all really, really good friends of the SGU. So we like to remember them every year. Okay, so as you all know. I have an announcement from our book publisher, if you don't mind. Oh, yes, go ahead, Jay. That book is the result of an incredible amount of work. So this book is about science, it's about the history of science, and it's about making predictions on future technology, historically and modern day. And we had a lot of fun writing the book.
It was really intense. But it's an archive now of incredible information about predictions that were made in the past, predictions that were made five, ten years ago, predictions that are made today. We also wrote some science fiction for this to illustrate some interesting future concepts of technology. Yeah, what I like is that it's also a time capsule. It's like our own time capsule for the future. So future generations can look back and see how we did, just like we are looking back at the past future and see how they did.
I hope they don't laugh at us the way we've been laughing at them.

You've had a lot of talk so far about it. That theme might crop up on the SGU show this weekend. But we've tried to focus on the positive, right, guys? We don't just want to say how bad it is. We want to focus on what you can do about it. And there's a lot of things you can do about it. All the things that we try to do every week. Understand science better and be more critical thinking, be more humble, know how to communicate, be more positive when you communicate, understand how to access information over media, how that all works.
