And now there are dedicated arenas, like Toronto’s Esports Arena, that seats 7,000 screaming gamers, as they watch their heroes compete for prize pools in the millions of dollars. So, to find out more about this relatively new but burgeoning entertainment industry, I contacted Jon Satterley, the co-founder of Fortress Melbourne. Fortress occupies 2,700 sq m inside Melbourne’s prestigious Emporium Shopping Mall, and has to be seen to be believed with gaming rooms, an eSports arena that can seat 1,000, it’s got bars, VIP booths, arcade alleys, even a room full of board games (old school!).
