It's something we create from presence, connection, and self-compassion. Over the next five weeks, you'll hear stories, tools, and reflections from our coaches at This Naked Mind to help you navigate triggers, set boundaries, and rediscover the magic of the season, alcohol-free.
Because when you start with grace, joy always follows.
Hey, hey, welcome back to the Joy Edit, our holiday series. I'm loving this, I hope you are too. This is, obviously you've realized by now, it's a grace-first guide to reclaiming, yeah, let's reclaim the season without alcohol. I am your host today, Coach Zoe, and today we are exploring something that feels, for me, for sure, both tender and really powerful. And that is what the holidays feel like when you remove alcohol and when you discover something else. And lo and behold, you discover something better waiting underneath. There's going to be a few challenges, okay? We're going to just have to swallow the pill sometime. But you know what? That's okay, okay? What you're going to discover that's better is going to outweigh what you're going to discover that's not, right?
And what's not can be worked on, so don't you worry. My first alcohol-free Christmas, I still remember it because... I used to have this kind of like this solo sort of framework. It would be time for the tree. I'd always negotiate when that time was. And then I'd go and find the tree, often with a family member. And then everyone would kind of disappear. And then I'd open a bottle of champagne and I would decorate the tree whilst getting silently, quietly pissed. And it was... the alcohol was the glue of that moment. And I remember the first time I did it without, and I literally felt like a kid in a new classroom, not knowing anyone. It was the craziest, craziest experience. And to be fair, once I allowed myself for it to be different,
It was good. It felt good. It was clear. And like I say, you know, it's like that whole Christmas was the first one I actually completely remembered from A to Z. You know, it wasn't glossy. It didn't, it wasn't perfect, but it was real. It was my Christmas with my family and my animals. And I was present for it. And that made it real. It made it magical in a way that I had forgotten was possible. Maybe a little bit, if I'm thinking about it now, kind of reset to when I was a child. Because I learned how to drink, right? I wasn't born with champagne in my bottle, was I? I learned how to drink. I learned how to like it. I didn't like my first drinks. I pushed on through. Or I drank really sweet white martini.
So this episode is all about that kind of joy, not the buzz in a glass kind of joy. That's easy peasy, right? But not in the long run, but ultimately, initially, it feels easy. Not the make me feel something quickly kind. Make me feel something other than the way I'm feeling now. Not the alter my consciousness kind.
