I love this, and I'm so happy to be here with you, Zoe.
For me, the way I look at joy, it's not a destination.
It's not a reward.
It's not something we finally get when life is perfect.
Because, I mean, let's be honest, perfection is a moving target created by our nervous system when it's dysregulated.
For me, joy is an energy we allow when we stop numbing.
It's what rises when we're actually here in the present moment, instead of trying to escape our own experiences.
When we get out of the emotional fog, joy becomes something that bubbles up naturally, often in the smallest, simplest ways.
I just, I love that.
That's so beautifully said, Zoe.
You know, when we think about it, when alcohol fades, and this is the big one, joy stops being something we buy and turns into something we build.
So when we think back to our drinking days, a glass of wine gives us or gave us that illusion of joy, that quick hit, the release, the soften the edge moment.
But that's just borrowed joy.
It's rented and it always comes with a bill or a cost.
When we move through life awake, even when it's messy, even when emotions are big, we start building the kind of joy that can actually hold us.
Joy that we don't have to run away from the next morning.
Joy that doesn't turn into shame.
That's so true.
You know, something else that I want to add to that, because that was just absolutely beautiful, Zoe.
When people stop drinking, they often say, but I don't feel joy yet.
