And I say a couple of things.
One of them is I say, give your nervous system time to catch up.
You know, we've got to be able to feel all our emotions and joy is one of them.
You know, when we've been outsourcing joy to alcohol for years or decades, like you and I both did.
our internal joy muscles are sleepy.
They're like, oh, we're doing this now?
Are we feeling things again?
And then so slowly, so beautifully, joy starts slipping into the cracks.
Not big fire moments, firework moments, sorry, but little pulses of aliveness.
And then the second thing I wanna just sort of throw in here
is really looking at what you define as joy.
Because our memory has joy thinking that alcohol was joyful.
And we're trying to compete with an artificial, temporary, extremely costly amount of joy.
So finding the glimmers, that's joy.
That's so true.
You know, when you mentioned laughing,
To me, that is one of the biggest gifts because it's all part of this.
It's not something that we chase.
All of a sudden, it just naturally happens.
You know, when you've laughed so hard and your stomach hurts.
