In this episode, Mam dumped from the six, Arthur's packing his bags, and Walsh and Reno join the Brisbane rush hour. But first, Kevi Walters faces the chats after that Dragons disaster. Big news, and we just talked about at the top of the show, Gemma Shibasaki gone for six weeks, Pat Carrigan gone for six weeks as well. Brisbane performance lacklustre yesterday. It is critical times as we go into this weekend's football.
Well, that news hurts more than the loss yesterday, Dobbo, for the Broncos. Two of those guys missing for six weeks. You know, that's a big chunk of the season. Australian rep players, mate. They're but your men over the kangaroos. Mate, they're getting themselves primed for the World Cup, mate. That's what they're doing. They've been ready. See, they've come back healthy in the finals. Beautiful stuff. Now, look, we want them playing every week, these guys. And that's disappointing news for the Broncos.
Kevin, Broncos losing to the Dragons yesterday. I mean, you've been part as a player and a coach in losses when you really shouldn't have. Everything on paper said Brisbane should have won that game. So how would they look at addressing that this week, do you think?
Well, I addressed their start, certainly. They were off the pace from the get-go. The energy, I thought, they were out enthused a little bit at the start of the game. And then the whole Broncos way, when they're running out of time, they scored three tries in virtually 12 minutes, so nearly steal the game from the Dragons. So they've certainly got to sort out their start, continue that throughout the game. But look, I'm not too concerned. I'm sure lots of Broncos fans are. I'm a bit upset at the minute, but really, I think they're in exactly the same position, you know, as they were last year after round 13 with the five wins, the seven losses and the bye. So they can fix it up. It's just a matter of, you know, their leaders getting together and sorting it out.
Kev, we say that, but it's a different competition. There's a lot of sides this year that are circling around there. Is it hard to judge the latter because of the byes at the moment?
What impact do injuries have on the Brisbane Broncos' season?
Yeah, we spoke about that on the podcast, didn't we, Dobbo, this morning? You know, like, you know, the Cowboys and the Storm haven't had a bye yet. And some teams have had two byes. So it's a bit of a false economy. Yeah, that was the word we used this morning, which, you know, with the latter. So I think once we get through Origin and then, you know, get to about round 18 to 20. we'll get a better nail on the ladder, but also the point system and how it works. So it is a bit confusing sometimes if you don't look a bit deeper into the actual wins and losses that teams have had.
Queensland weekend this weekend, the Cowboys take on the Dolphins, Broncos take on the Titans. It's an initiative from the Premier, David Crisafulli, with obviously Queensland games going on. But how special is it for this great state and you being a proud, born in Rockhampton, raised in Ipswich, just love the Maroon.
Yeah, I do, mate. I'm a very proud Queenslander, even though, you know, the Kangaroos coach, through this origin period, I've been heavily supporting, you know, the Queenslanders as well as our New South Wales counterparts. But it is a special day on Saturday as a Queenslander. And for all Queenslanders, we need to celebrate Saturday. And it doesn't have to be around sport. It can be around our culture. It can be around many things that we are. And I feel very lucky, Dobbo, and privileged to grow up in Queensland and be be part of what is, I think, the greatest state in Australia, obviously.
