Are you enjoying the footy? Yeah, I love the footy. Look, the tournament blowouts, I said in the podcast with Chimes last week, the average 50 points a game and 17.1 points per margin. Then last weekend we got some close games. I just love a footy contest. Sit at home. You want to be on the edge of your couch. You don't want to, you know. Yeah. But the game's going good. I'm enjoying it. Penrith are playing great. It's a good comp.
Why do you think the buzz with the change, Penrith have been able to still adapt and still get it done? They're one of the only teams. You look at Broncos, they won the comp last year and they seem to be struggling. Well, they are struggling.
Is it because of the rule change or is it just... Look, I always thought, and to start with you not being a smartass now, I always thought Penrith would win the comp this year only... in that it's the first steady year they've had with their roster. They didn't lose a player. Each and every year they've lost Burtons and Kickows and Crichtons and Lewis. This year they kept their same roster. Yep. So I always thought they were going to go, but Ivan's a great coach. You don't make five grand finals straight, win four titles if you don't know how to adjust to these rules you're talking about. Yeah. Yeah. So there you go.
Matt, as I said before, I have missed you a lot. Are you missing the game or are you loving retirement?
I love retirement. I really do. I'm not fighting with anyone. No combat. I'm sleeping eight hours a night, you know. And I used to get home from NRL 360 on a Monday night really, really stressed because I'm not into bright lights and cameras. And I wonder – it got to an age where I didn't like offending people and – but – We're paid to go on those shows to have an honest opinion, not, you know, people have got a Fox subscription or a newspaper to the Telegraph. They want your honest opinion. If you hear something, you've got to print it or you've got to talk about it. And I wasn't into protecting people.
How does Buzz feel about the current state of rugby league?
But in the end, I just got a bit sick of it, having to do it. I didn't like Braith coming to me and saying, what's wrong with Nico Hines? And then I'd have to say, Nico's not playing good. Dicko's a bloody good person. You know, when I was a kid, I had to go after Nathan Cleary. Remember the TikTok video during COVID? You remember that? Yeah. Then he lied to the integrity unit.
