Mate, I've been loving you on Fox, by the way. You are absolutely killing it. How are you enjoying all that?
Yeah, loving it, mate. Look, it's great to get the opportunity. I'm working with some fantastic people. Yeah, and it's my Saturday night with Von, Koops, Kevi. And, yeah, I'm loving the challenge. I'm loving the opportunity. And, yeah, it's been great.
How did Jared experience rivalries in his rugby career?
Yeah. Did you think you were going to get into media? Because I felt like when you were playing, you didn't sort of seem to like the media stuff or you didn't do as much media stuff. When you were going to retire, was media always in your mind or did it just sort of happen like by chance?
Yeah, I guess – I played a role, right, in footy that I lived in a bit of a mental space. And I think for me personally, at the back end of my career, I sort of stayed away from doing as much media because I felt like it kind of impacted the way that my mentality was. I never really thought I'd get into it as much as I am now. And I think that's been the best part of my own personal journey journey it's been great mate I've loved looking forward to every Saturday going and working with Fox and I guess I get opportunities like this and yeah it's great mate I never really thought I'd be involved as much as I am but I'm absolutely loving it.
When you say your mentality is it like the fact because obviously like the way you used to play was like well you would have been the alpha in every team you played in but And you obviously walk the tightrope. We probably were a bit similar in that sense. Buying into the media stuff... Was it you didn't care what they said about you and you didn't want to hear it because you were going to play the same either way? And if you did hear it, would you be like maybe got to ease up a bit? Is that what you sort of mean about listening to it and buying into it a bit?
I didn't really want to give my position anything, you know? And I reckon it was like maybe four or five years of my career. I just didn't want – anyone to have anything on me because my mentality was like, well, I'm going to go and do what I want to do. And if I kind of give anyone anything throughout the week, then it may give them, you know, something to get back on me. And, um, I don't know. I kind of said a few things at the chooks where it's not about me. It's not about me. Let's get these younger guys coming through doing it. But yeah, I lived in this space where it took a lot of mental capacity as well to constantly push and I think the biggest thing was not giving my opposition anything.
Yeah. Well, you were an absolute force on the field. You went to, obviously, England for your final year and you win the premiership. How special was that season over in England?
Yeah, loved it, mate. Obviously, went there, mate. We played a whole FC, obviously.
Yeah.
Mate, it's an amazing place. When you go there, for me in my career with my kids and my wife, they were at great ages to do the experience and we obviously went over there, went to a club that was heading in a direction with Hull KR and We're fortunate to win some silverware throughout the year, but they don't have much over there.
