Pretty sad day at South Sydney with Queensland Maroons forward and South Sydney Rabideau, Joy Arrow, revealing he's been diagnosed with motor neurone disease. Horrific. Really good bloke, Joy Arrow. And we're lucky enough to have the coach of the South Sydney Rabbit Oats, Wayne Bennett, joining us.
Wayne, what a horrible, horrible day for rugby league and what a fine young man Jairo is and just how tragic this is.

How's the club reacting, mate, obviously?
Oh, really good. No, the club's good. The club's 100% supportive of him and we'll do all we can to help him on his journey and be part of it with him.
The players are all right, mate, because I know Jai is so well loved within that playing group. You know, you've also got a game to play over the weekend. How are they?
Well, you know, Jai is with us all the time, so we're detached from him. We don't see him or anything like that. And they know he's been not well because they've seen him here and he's trained, but not the lads that they do. He comes to every training session and been with us. So, yeah, it's not that we've been detached from him. It's just the final diagnosis comes through and they don't know what variant it is.

But at this point, he's been diagnosed. That means his footy life is over for his playing career, not his actual rest of his time. But, yeah, so we'll have a meeting tomorrow. I didn't tell the players up until today because I thought it was – we just wanted to – How's Jai, mate? Obviously, you've spent a lot of time with him over a long period of time.
I reckon you've probably, you know, you've known him practically his whole football career. How's Jai?
well that's why i coached him at the world cars in 15 when he went back and he was under 20s how is he mate because he's such a proud man he's good you know as good as can be expected it's very challenging for him and um hasn't said up until recently wasn't sure what was going on so he's got some something confirmed there now and um look he's been a fighter all his life he's a guy that and the tougher it gets, the better he gets.

So if there's one guy that could be up for this, he will be, and he is. I think he's relieved today that it's out there and can now move on and get the treatment and all the stuff that he's going to need to continue to make sure that they get under control.
Represented 12 times for his state. Jizzy was a hell of a footballer. I know we're talking about a man, a wonderful bloke, but he was a hell of a footballer as well when he was at his best.
Well, you know, he wasn't a guy that was going to blow you away with his speed or his footwork or his sharpness, but his toughness was his greatest attribute. And his football mouse, he was a smart player. He had to be. I mean, the guy wasn't, what, 95 kilograms max? Yeah. And if he's playing weights and that, he didn't have all those great attributes that some of them have, but He was just a tough guy that loved playing, loved being with his teammates and hated not doing his best for them. He's the type of guy I like to coach because you always know they're going to turn up every weekend. They are going to do their best.
Yeah. A really sad day for rugby league. Really sad day for South Sydney. And we just hope, I know he's, um, his mom and his dad, you know, very proud, you know, family and, and, you know, his partner, obviously he's just recently a dad as well. Um, yeah.
Yeah. No, he's on the, he's on the circuit now, but anyway, there's a lot of support here.
