Well we uh have to attend a four hundred and eighty hour mandated course by F DLE. uh for patrol work and then uh two hundred hours for detection work.

Yes. We have to do a minimum of uh sixteen hours of training per discipline.

Uh yes, I work multiple dogs.

I worked with him for approximately six years before he retired.

uh tracking and uh human remains.

Well, for the human remains detection, we actually went through the two hundred hour detection course and we utilize actual human remains from the ME's office. And uh that's what we used to imprint 'em on.
Okay. So um did he also have to do continuing like recertifications or education every month or year or however it works?
Uh yes, we maintained our monthly training and we had to certify every year.
Okay. Can you walk us through what that training looks like for him?
The monthly training would be just setting up different hides in vehicles, uh rooms, area searches, buried hides, shoreline searches. We try to replicate anything that Uh we may need to search in the Throughout our uh job function.
Is Connor trained to decipher or to um know the difference between the scent of human remains versus let's say animal remains?
Oh yes.
And can you explain to the court how he learned that? Like what was the process for his training?
So according I'm not a medical professional, but according to R M E, uh the human remain, uh the human body when it decomposes produces a unique odor in the animal kingdom. compared to any other animal. And also while we're doing the the imprinting, we'll find uh Animals on the side of the road and We'll also use them and bury 'em and hide 'em. Uh verify that he's not hitting on animal remains.
Okay, so part of his training you will get like portions of a dead animal. And then you will also get um also get um maybe some type of human remains from the Emmy's office.
