Well, Anthony Albanese headed over uh across the Pacific to the US, landed in San Francisco and was in Silicon Valley. Uh Albo uh met up with Tim Cook, the former Apple CEO, now executive chairman of Apple, and the subject was the social media ban, youth safety online. They were discussing uh the new parental controls in the upgraded iOS 27, which have been proved. They've uh they're closer to the surface now. Um and uh it was claimed that uh Tim Cook t uh w mentioned to Albo that the Apple decision to improve and upgrade The parental controls was partly due to their the Aussie's stance on social media, but also to it was also the result of a of an Apple investigation into the dangers of of social media.

Their own study showed that they really needed to do something. Uh so the PM spent forty-five minutes. Uh he had a closed door meeting with Tim Cook at Apple Park. I've been there a few times, the uh Apple HQ in Cupertino. And he was uh in the mothership in the the massive circular building there. There's pictures of that he shared, ironically, on social media, with Tim Cook on his Instagram account. Tim Cook also shared uh a post. On X, uh, where he said, it was great to welcome At Albo MP to Apple Park this morning to talk about the incredible work of our teams and our longstanding commitment to Australia.
How does the iPhone Duo’s design and hinge differ from other foldables?
I was grateful to share some of our newest innovations, including strong and intuitive controls to help keep kids safe online. Now he after his meeting with Tim Cook, Albo held a a little gathering of of uh reporters. He gave a little press conference uh from the Apple uh customer center, which across across the road I c I recognized the spot. It was on the top floor of the visitor center, which has a nice little view over Apple Park. And it was at this gathering he said, Tim Cook gave us a lot of time this morning. He regards the work that we have done on social media to be world leading. So uh yeah, impressive words there. Now, this is of course in the light of Australia introducing the social media band for children under sixteen back in December.
And uh as a result, other countries around the world have also gravitated towards the idea and are now moving to possibly adopt a similar strategy in their own countries. So uh it's It's a an idea grown out of Australia, uh, whether you agree with it or not. Uh, but uh and and even more recently there's talk of, you know, adop uh having the uh the platforms ch uh change the algorithm and make it easier for users to opt in rather than have to opt out of of various things like the algorithm. So it was uh it Interesting to see how this was received. Uh, this is this is the first stop, by the way, of Elbow's trip. He's heading over to New York. Apparently, there's a couple of vacant seats on the United Nations, uh, in the United Nations that Australia is uh possibly going to uh grab one of those, uh missing those vacant chairs.
Uh it's a seat in the assembly. And also, he was also going to discuss AI. AI and the responsible use of AI, especially when it comes to protecting copyright, especially for Australian artists and and and other other other talents in Australia.
