Danielle began her career in the entertainment PR industry at Miramax International, working on global film campaigns and red carpet premieres at festivals from Cannes to Venice to Berlin. She eventually traded red carpets for red wine, spending the last 23 years building a distinguished career in the luxury wine and spirits industry. Now she's poured her love of wine and family into her debut book, A Wine Lover's Guide to Parenting: The Fine Art of Wine and Wine Management. A satirical, tongue-in-cheek survival guide that blends wine terminology with pre parenting wisdom. Welcome to Uncorking a Story, Danielle.
Thank you for having me. Excited to be here.
I'm excited to have you here, Danielle. I'm curious, where does your story as an author begin?
I mean if we're going, you know, way back into the archives, I've just always been somebody that loves writing. Writing is a creative outlet for me. Um, and when I was younger I just loved writing poems and stories. Um, but I loved to rhyme particularly. I don't know why, but I'm really good at rhyming and I just think it's super fun and a fun way to uh, you know, um digest, you know, what you're reading. Um, so I've always written stuff and I've always had um You know, so I like I I was I had the idea to write a lot of like actual children's books ideas. Um I'm a person that's glass half full and I want to make the world a better place. And I've always felt that that starts with kids at a young age, you know, learning this good behavior.
And so I initially started this um this children's book series that teaches kids about different cultures out there, right? Trying to teach kids at a young age that, you know, somebody might look different or speak a different language or eat different foods, but we're all we all sleep under the same star of skies and we all need to, you know, respect each other as human beings and and trying to, you know, have my imprint on how kids are raised at a young age. Um but then, you know, my my writing took a turn um and all sort of happen happenstance with this project that I put out. Um even though I released it uh last October or or September. Um I wrote it about fourteen years ago. Um so it became a combination of many things.
Um I was hoping to be a mom and hoping that path of you know would have been my journey but unfortunately did not happen for me uh when I realized that my fiance did not want more kids after his first marriage um produced kids. And so I broke it off and you know, I realized that just because the path of motherhood might not happen for me, it doesn't mean the nurturing goes away and I still want a seat at the table to how kids are raised. And I'm an aunt to my niece and nephew, I'm auntie Danielle to so many of my friends' kids. And um I was watching my niece and nephew one day and they were younger and even though great kids, every kid has the propensity to whine of course and they were whining about something and I said, Uh uh, Auntie Annelle drinks wine.
She doesn't listen to wine. And from there the wheels all started to turn, you know. One, you know, wanting to Uh, have my seat at the table as I said for how kids are raised well. I said, Well instead of writing a young children's book, how about uh getting to the parents, you know, right when the kid's born of Um, you know, talking about good human decency and good human behavior. And, you know, working in the wine and spirits industry for now twenty-two years, I love the idea of making wine knowledge fun and accessible. Um so I did this in such a way that every time I i I parallel wine terminology to raising kids.
