Hi, I'm Dr. Barry Prezant, clinical scholar, researcher, and consultant on autism and neurodiversity, and a Brooklyn boy raised in the big city. And
I'm Dave. I'm none of those things, and I grew up on a farm in Illinois. But being on the spectrum myself, I have plenty of personal insight to lend.
And
this is
Uniquely human the podcast, a show that illuminates and celebrates autism and neurodiversity.
Alright, Barry, we have... And a very exciting episode today for me personally for a few reasons. And um I'll just rattle those off to you. Uh first, it occurs to me that in one hundred and twenty f six episodes, I don't know how many episodes we've had now, you have brought all of the subject matter experts that we've ever spoken to. And um uh that ranges from Dr. Temple Grand into Sigourney Weaver. We've had we've run the gamut. And uh every week w in our planning meeting I say, you know what? All of my friends are flunkies. I don't know anybody that could contribute positively to anything that our audience would want to listen to. So we'll just keep going with your your roster and then A friend, I will say friend, uh, and uh I'm just I like to define things right up front and then work with it.
So uh my friend B reached out to us. Uh she is a uh uh multiple times published author, subject matter expert featured in parenting and uh NBC and all these different uh media. And she said, Hey, you know, uh, got a book coming out and I think it would be a really good conversation to have uh for your audience And I said, Wait a minute, don't go anywhere because for once, for once, I get to bring a guest onto the show that I know who's not a complete Like I said, flunky who's jumping off of roofs and smashing tables and asking for high fives, 'cause that's usually the crowd that I roll with.
And and Dave, what a stellar choice also. I mean, B and I had the chance to chat a little bit before you came on, I think. This is gonna be a good one.
She B is awesome and I knew this right away. Uh I met B uh because I was speaking at uh Southeast Psych. It was a a clinic in uh Raleigh, North Carolina area, and uh they invited me down for a a t uh autism thing and I spoke. It was wonderful. But um there was the pre-dinner the night before and I got to sit next to B. And I was talking I was lamenting about um I had taken a first class flight, but it wasn't It wasn't uh the full experience because I didn't have any cookies on that flight. Normally they s they walk around with a tray of warm chocolate chip cookies on American first class. And um she set her fork down and she's like, So tell me a little bit more about white privilege. And That was the first exchange that we had except for hello and I was like, I love this person.
We are going to be friends.
And then she gave you a cookie.
And
then 'cause I had to at this point. There was no other way.
That's right. My perseveration was off the charts at that point. She was like, Somebody, get this little tulip. A cookie, so he will shut up about his uh dreadful first class experience. And uh I just thought she's awesome. Thank you for sitting me next to B. And uh, you know, we've we've been uh having fun together ever since. And um so uh B Moys is joining us today. Hello Bee. B Moyes is a board certified cognitive specialist. She is an author, uh, national speaker, neurodiversity coach and consultant for both individuals and businesses. Uh and B is a featured expert, as I said, for NBC News, um and the neurodivergence expert for Verizon. She is a trained cognitive specialist and mental health professional specializing in behavior.
