What is the premise of the episode and who are the hosts?
Hey everyone, welcome to Vassals of Kingsgrave. Is this an episode of House of the Dragons? No. If you need a break from that, it is an episode from another HBO show, Euphoria, which originally aired in 2019, covered three seasons with some specials, and finally rapped a couple of weeks ago. It is written, directed by Sam Levinson, son of Barry, for those of you who are old and into movies, who himself, as a teenager, battled with mental health crises, severe drug addiction. Got himself clean, got himself into screenwriting. And it is a show that is unusually brutal and raw about what it is to be a teenager today battling with sexuality, addiction, um, mental health issues, and just all the usual crap about being a teenager.
Um, the only other bit of preamble I will say is that it was apparently a remake of an Israeli show that was itself heavily influenced by the UK show skins. Which originally was broadcast in 2013. And Skins and Euphoria both, I think, shot a number of stars to superstardom. In the case of Euphoria, obviously Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Alordi, Zendea. Um, and Coleman Domingo, who's older, I think, was cemented into basically being a global national treasure, partly with this role. There was a long hiatus between seasons, partly because of the writer's strike, and then also because of difficulties of scheduling and getting all of these new superstars together. It was controversial or debated as to whether we'd have a third season.
And it's also been controversial and debated where Sam Levine. Robinson chose to take the characters in what he has said multiple times is 100% the final season. If you believe the scuttle butt because some of the stars don't get on. So we are going to be discussing this with full spoilers, uh, focusing mainly on season three, but I'm sure the character arcs in the season overall. My name is Beena Double Seven, I'll be your host, and today I am joined by Adam.
Hey, this is Adam, also known as Drown Snow.
By Al. Hey, this is Al Nettles. On the discourse. And also by Hannah. Hey, it's the Winged Shadow. You'll find where to find us on our YouTube channel. So let's start off with just a little lemon cake rating out of five. How do you guys rate this season and then maybe the series overall? So we'll go in the same order. Adam, how about you?
Uh, I'll give this like um three like drug meal trips across the Mexican border for this season out of five. Um and the series as a whole, I'd say like a four. Um I thought this season was just kinda a little scattered to say the least.
So would you have given the prior two seasons fives or closer to fives?
Uh the first season, yeah. The second season I I enjoy, but I like I was watching it week by week and then I think I forgot about it and then like I came back to it like six months later and finished it off. Um and then there was there was that special episode that came out. Um but I thought the second season ended very strong. I thought the first season was really, really good. So like yeah, four to five, maybe four and a half in in the range for those.
Yeah, so diminishing returns to euphoria. How
Now what about you Elle? I'd have to concur somewhat. Um probably not as generous. I would say that this sin fin finale itself, I give it about a 2.5. Um pretty disappointed with this final season uh Definitely not nearly as strong, uh put together, structured, or interesting as the previous seasons one and two. So it was pretty much yeah, it was overall a let down in general.
Yeah, and very much what you said else. So I don't need to give my ratings independently. How about you, Hannah?
I guess I have a little bit of a different perspective 'cause I never watched the show until I started watching it right as this last season came out and I binged the whole thing. So Um I guess Going in all one fell swoop like that maybe changes it a bit. I liked it, although I will say it did feel a little disjointed in the sense that it almost felt like
