Hello, SEOs and marketers. My name is Jordan Cooney from Previsible. Joining me today is Will Reynolds, who is the founder at Sear Interactive, a full service search marketing agency for challenger brands that want to make an impact through digital marketing. Today, Will and I are going to discuss his presentation at Brighton SEO. Okay, here's my conversation with Will Reynolds, the founder of Sear Interactive. Will, welcome to the Voice of the Search Podcast. Thanks for having me on, brother. All right, so super excited to be talking with you. Obviously, we're doing a Brighton SEO week here on the Voice of Search podcast. You will be presenting at the conference and and sharing some some insights, not only here on the podcast, but many of our podcast listeners are attending the event, but also
Jordan Cooney 1:28
We'll be presenting, I think, as as a closing keynote at the Brighton SEO San Diego event in November. Well, give us a little bit of background about what you're going to be talking about, what you're going to be sharing with the audience as just a precursor of of the event.
Wil Reynolds 1:42
Well, you know, I think for me, I've always tried to focus on this concept of like humanity because at the end of the day, like I think so often we get so into the algorithmic side of what we do that we forget a little bit about the fact that we need actual humans to click on these results and then to have a pleasurable experience to turn into revenue or leads or whatever we're targeting. So I like to kind of talk about humanity and then of course These days, you can't present a forward-looking vision of search without talking about AI. So it's really going to be a it's going to be pretty heavy on like where I see AI being disruptive and why I also think the search people are prepared for this disruption in ways that they don't even see themselves yet.
Wil Reynolds 2:22
So for instance, data is like, we're so used to being data-driven, yet like data's disappearing like crazy. If you actually think about it, we have all this data, but it's technically it's disappearing. Disappearing. You know, if you look at certain referral strings, you don't get those anymore. If you get certain remember back in the day, you could get the device type, you don't get that anymore. Correct. Um, you know, you'll mobile, but no, no, no, what version of mobile? Well, oh, we'll give you the version, but we won't tell you if they're on the iPhone 16 or 15 anymore. So if you actually think about it, we are at a time where data is there's a ton of it. But it's going away in pain if you do performance max or if you're on Facebook, you can do uh Facebook Advantage, and then that gives you less and less visibility.
Wil Reynolds 3:00
So if you actually think about it, we have less data to make decisions than we ever have. And what I'm trying to tell folks is like, yeah, that's why we gotta start using our brains. And in an AI world, you get there is no webmaster tools for Chat GPT. So you don't know what people are asking over there. Yep. You have no idea the questions, you have no idea whether or not you Show up. So we're we're entering this world of lack of data. However, I think the first group of people to ever be hit by having someone take away data that was meaningful for us were SEOs. Yes. Not provided is now I think ten or eleven years old of when not provided came out. And we pivoted and we're still here and we're still kicking.
Wil Reynolds 3:35
So to me, I'm like, okay, we're the people that have figured out how data can get removed and how to keep pushing.
