Great to be back, as always. And uh we have a packed agenda on Google Changes. I can never remember the sound.
There it is. The official Google update. So tell me what happened. We're we're a couple weeks removed from the actual algorithm update. We didn't do an initial like algorithm update announcement. Now we actually have some data. Talk to me about what happened with this update.
Yeah, so we're just a week in uh to this update. On the fifteenth, Google announced uh the August 2024 core update. And there's a lot of kind of volatility that that was happening prior to to the update. More importantly, I think what's really interesting is what we're ultimately seeing is that Google had some ranking issues and some core issues right after the update. Google was doing some testing prior to this update related to AI and AI.
What is Google’s “Nothing Burger” core update and why does it matter?
Overviews. So there's just so many things going on all at once. It's candidly really difficult to say what's what at this particular moment. However, they they did stipulate that this is going to be 30 days of an update. So we're we're still very early in, as we're only just one week in. And I'd be hard pressed to say that we're actually seeing the full algorithm and systems clearing out. any changes just yet.
Bro, this sounds like a effing nothing burger based on how you're describing it. Give me the real details. Like Google made an algorithm update. It's gonna take thirty days for them to blow it out, and then maybe we're gonna see some changes. Like there's gotta be some sort of segmentation, some specific industries that were affected, some type of content. Let's get into the meat.
Well, let's get into me. One thing on the announcement. Uh the announcement itself is is very vanilla like most Google announcements. But what they did do is they updated the core updates page. And I love it. I'm actually thrilled about this update. They finally actually went in and told people what every SEO has been telling every one of their clients, has been telling all of their partners, has been telling all their analytics teams for the better part of you know four years. Now, which is hey, when a core update comes out, there are specific things we should be doing in terms of the correlation to the timing of that update and what's happening to our website. So Google actually put four actionable steps on how to check if there's a traffic drop and an impact due to a core update.
They also gave really clear direction on what happens if it's It's a really large drop. And they gave clear things on what to do. They actually said things to avoid. They actually said things to consider. And I'm super proud of Google. I'm like, all right, you actually are telling the SEO community what so many people have been saying for years on what to actually do during an update.
