Hello, SEOs. My name is Jordan Cooney from Previsible. And this week we're going to be discussing SEO strategies and techniques to optimize marketplaces. Joining me is Amy Hyerchek, who is the Senior Manager of SEO Product and Strategy at Reverb, which is one of the largest online marketplaces dedicated to buying and selling new, used, and vintage musical instruments. Today, Amy and I are going to discuss Marketplace SEO. Okay, here's my conversation with Amy, the senior manager of SUN Product Strategy at Reverb. Amy, welcome to the Voices Search podcast.
Amy Hyerczyk 1:54
Hey, thanks. Happy to be here.
Jordan Cooney 1:55
Great. I am pumped. I don't get to talk to marketplace SEO experts often enough. A good chunk of my career was spent in it at eBay. And Reverb is one of the more unique marketplaces in the ecosystem, offering new use and vintage musical instruments and other accessories. I'd love to have you introduce Reverb to our community because maybe they don't really know about it. And really specifically help us understand the two-sided marketplace that you all have.
Amy Hyerczyk 2:26
Sure. Yeah. Reverb's been around and as you said, it is specializing in buying and selling musical instruments. We have all kinds of sellers all over the world, individuals, big brands, you name it. We have a lot of partnerships. We have artist shops. We have whole teams dedicated to building partnerships with folks all over the globe, all different kinds of talents. And so it's yeah, it's a fun place to work because you do feel like you're getting that mix of musicians that, you know, Muse, Green Day, the ones you might see touring, as well as up. and comers, you know, kids, um, you name it. So I think it's been uh almost four years and it's it's I feel like I'm still learning something every day. I'm not a musician myself, but I get to work with a lot of talented musicians, a lot of folks that will take time off to go on tour.
Amy Hyerczyk 3:12
Um so it's yeah, it's a pretty unique place to work all the way around.
Jordan Cooney 3:15
Awesome. That's really cool. And and it's and it's always fun when you're not when you're part of a marketplace, but you're not necessarily the expert of that product. I I remember when I was at eBay, I went to go visit the the the the largest horse saddle seller in the world. Um and I knew nothing about horses, I knew nothing about saddles, but boy, did I learn a lot through through that experience and in meeting that seller. And so it's it's amazing to be part of these. Two-sided communities and be able to see both the buyers of these products and the sellers of these products. Tell us a little bit about the SEO strategy. How how do you guys take on SEO, um, being a verticalized marketplace? And what are some of the general kind of principles that you all look at when it comes to SEO?
Amy Hyerczyk 3:58
Sure. Yeah, I think with any marketplace, I mean technical SEO is gonna be huge. You're usually talking about millions and millions of pages, oftentimes not in your control if you're dealing with a lot of listings, a lot of products coming and going.
