Today, Steven and I are going to discuss the state of SEO reporting. Okay, here's my conversation with Steven Van Vessem, Director of Organic Marketing at Conductor. Steven, welcome to the Voiceless Search Podcast.
Thanks,
Jordan. So uh looking forward to jumping in. Uh here we're still in in January as we're recording and uh we're diving into a state of SEO report that has been released by by the team over at Conductor. So maybe we can jump off by by just giving our our listeners a little background on on yourself, Steven, your role at at Conductor, and then if you don't mind sharing a little bit about this report and what you all have have produced.
Yeah, sounds good. So um as for a little bit about me, um, so obviously Steven, I've been with Conductor for three years. I became part of Conductor because my company was acquired. Um the company's called Content King. It became part of Conductor three years ago. And I've actually been doing SEO for fifteen or sixteen years. Um, so I've been around for a while. I'm based in the Netherlands. Yeah, and I'm super excited to to dive into uh yeah the the state of SEO report uh with you, Jordan.
How is the State of SEO survey structured and who are the respondents?
Great. And um I mean, you know, I'm really interested in in understanding uh some background on this report. So, um, a little background as to to why you all have created it and and maybe give our listeners here early in this episode uh some direction on where they can find it so that they can uh get access to this report if uh they want to dive in further.
Of course. So the State of SEO survey uh is an annual survey that we run, uh, where we interview um SEOs, content marketers, digital marketing folks about like what have they been up to, like when it comes to SEO, what's been working, what's not been working, what are they anticipating the next year is gonna be like, what are they gonna be focusing on, sort of like what challenges they're running into. So it's uh like it's pretty broad uh study, but like the focus really is on like everything going on in uh SEO land.
And you know, a little bit about the respondents. So so uh it it seems like the the survey isn't just geared towards SEOs. And I think this is important. It it seems like it's a good collective of both influencers of SEO as well as practitioners. Correct.
Yeah, so definitely. So if you look at sort of uh the job titles, um we actually have like one third of the respondents are uh folks uh from the C-suite. Around twenty-five percent uh are director or VP. Then we have uh around 25% managers and the remainder uh are uh practitioners. So it really is a as a mix. And then like if you uh look at uh sort of like team composition, it's a mix as well, which makes it super interesting because you can dive into uh things like collaboration, um, like how do teams function, how do they work together uh to achieve like uh a great SEO performance. So um yeah, it's a it's a very diverse uh uh mix of respondents. Awesome.
And I I'm curious as it pertains to the direction here. You know, SEO is going through a lot of change right now. And we're we're at a we're at a real crossroads where not only are the SERP experiences within Google changing, but unequivocally, I think by all accounts, everyone believes that search is evolving and the discovery of
