We took our podcast right down to the Grand Rapids Bridal Show at the DeVos Place and sat down with a number of great vendors and did a live podcast right at the Bridal Show. How about a custom perfume for your wedding day or a perfume bar, a unique experience at the reception? Welcome to the Wedding Planning Experts Podcast, hosted by Dan and Andrea DeWard, owners of Full Circle Weddings. After 25 years in the wedding industry, owning and operating multiple wedding venues, hosting hundreds of ceremonies and receptions, we provide tips to help brides and grooms plan their wedding stress-free and on budget. So let's dive in and talk about all things weddings. All right. We're with Alison from Cloak down at the Bridal Expo.
Welcome to the Wedding Planning Experts podcast.
Thank you.
What is a wedding perfume bar and why is it trending?
Happy to be here. So I really want to hear about your business. So can you tell us how you got this started?
Yeah. So I have an innovation product development background. I've done that for a lot of other companies, and I've worked with a lot of really wonderful women over the years and just, you know, interacted in life and kept hearing this common theme around little imposter syndrome that not enoughness that you know tends to kind of come out and um sometimes from societal and cultural factors and sometimes we're just human right so uh i also had my own personal experience with that a few years ago and i was about to hop on another call and i was like man i need something to like armor up right And that's kind of where the idea for Cloak using scent storytelling and soundscapes to make an immersive experience that someone can identify with just to help rewrite some of those narratives, remind ourselves that we are, in fact, whole and enough.
We just need to reignite that piece sometimes.
so that's the mission explain a little bit more about so so listeners or if you're watching this podcast can fully understand what you're doing and what your your services or product because you you i heard scent i heard visual and maybe audio
yeah so it is a fragrance line so the product is fragrance but each scent has a story and each story has a soundtrack so if you hop over to the website uh you can take a look at the stories you can listen to the soundtrack and kind of get a vibe on it and then uh you know if we're in real life like we are today there's an opportunity to listen while you sample as well so you kind of get the full sensory experience
Yeah. So if a client and we're at the bridal show, so let's say bride, a bride, you know, buys your product or connects with you and wants that product. When they get that product, the perfume, the scent, does it come with an audio? Do they get that part of it too? Or do they just hear that online?
For right now it is online, so they'll just have to QR code back to it if they wanna recreate that at home.
Yeah, which is great. What are you finding talking to brides and working with brides and what are you finding, how is this helping them or what do you feel that they're excited about related to your product?
Well, this is my first bridal show and my second show in general. So I'll just preface that. So I have yesterday as my qualitative data set. And it was really awesome. Everyone seemed really interested. They enjoyed the sampling experience and even throwing on the headphones to listen to the tracks. It sounded like that, you know, a few of them were looking for a signature scent for them as a couple. And so they had their fiance in tow and, you know, they were both partaking and sampling and kind of checking things out because they wanted to mark that day with, you know, another memorable aspect of the experience. And I think we even had a couple of people ask about providing samples for like the wedding itself.
And so, you know, I didn't have a ton of time to dive into where that was really stemming from. I bet you two could maybe tell me what that's about. Just from your many years of decades of experience.
I think it's a great idea. You tapped into a couple of things that you just mentioned, I think could really be a sweet spot for you.
