The more you do it, the harder it gets, and the more likely it becomes that it’s going to happen again. And again. That’s because one of the by-products of repeated acute alcohol withdrawal is, frankly, brain damage. In particular, it can affect the centres of the brain responsible for emotional regulation, impulse control, and decision making.
