I don't know what you're talking about. Like, I'm pleading. Yeah. Picked up again, thrown again. We had situations that lasted for days. Just hiding.

Well, today's guest may not be the most recognizable name I've had on the podcast to date, but he definitely has one of the most incredible stories. The legendary Chasman trainer has been through it all to get to where he is today, and he's at the point of his life where he's willing to share. He's inspired many through the years as a trainer, and now he's about to inspire all of you. He's a champion, lad. He's one of the greats. It is, of course, Daniel Hobbs. Welcome, mate.

Yeah, you're right. I'm not your standard guest, and I appreciate you extending the range of your guests to include myself. It is an honor to be sitting in the chair that some other big dogs have sat in. Yep, it's nice to be here.
Mate, we go back to, I think it was under 18, Nelson Bays, you were... 2006. 2006, a young trainer coming on the scene and you took that side to glory. It was the glory days, really.
I was a small part on a big wheel. I like to call it. I remember that. It was good times. Good team. Good place for me to start my time in the S&C world.
Yeah. And I guess before we get to your S&C stuff and the rest of it, we need to kind of start at the start for you. I know you had a unique upbringing compared to most.
Where was it? So I was born in Hamilton. Oh, okay. Yep. A few years back now. Yeah. How old are you? I've just gone 47. Oh, okay. Yeah, a few years back. So born in late 78. So born in Hamilton. Yeah, lived there. We moved out to a farm out in Ngaruahia. And then we moved to the South Island. So when I was about six. Okay. Siblings? I have a younger sister. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So she's, we're about four years. I'm about four years old. Yeah. And mum and dad. This is where we're a little bit sideways on the story. I had a, obviously I had a father and a mother. Yeah. We, my, this ties into a little bit later on, the guy that I thought was my father, he and my mum split up when I was about two. So I have no memories of him.
Oh, really? So that's the Hobbs side. Yeah.
And you never knew this? I never knew that he was, that he'd left your mum.
No, mum told me that. Oh, okay. But I just have no memories of her. Oh, yeah, yeah. The first, and then she met another man who, so my sister was born after that. And then she met another man who just was not a nice man at all. He, to me, doesn't deserve the man title. I think the word man is earned, and he doesn't get to have that title in my eyes. So we went out and lived in his farm out in Ngaruwaya.
