Chapter 1: What are the initial reactions to Brad Scott's departure from Essendon?
Nath, thank you. Ron's on the Bass Coast. Ron, welcome aboard.
Yeah, g'day, Gerard. I don't know how many games you've seen Essendon play this year, Gerard, but we turn up with no passion, intensity. There's nothing urgent about their game.
Chapter 2: How has passion and intensity been lacking in Essendon's performance?
We beat Melbourne in Adelaide. I was there. We had Edwards up forward, Langford down back.
Tisardis playing in the middle all of a sudden Brad Scott turned around and put Edwards on the wing Langford back to forward Tisardis doesn't get a game even though he gets nearly best on the ground in the reserves every week the club needed a new direction he wasn't taking us anywhere Gerrard but even the first quarter against Richmond we had no passion or intensity the game was over halfway through the first quarter before we got the injuries and there's no excuse for that the players weren't playing for the coach
It was obvious.
It was time?
Absolutely, it was time. Absolutely, it was. Gerrard, you can't play a game with no passion or intensity. Look at the way Richmond turned up the other night. They were ready for the game. And even the coaches you watch on, even the, sorry, the commentators, the special commentary, said that Essendon's warm-up wasn't right.
Dermot Brereton came out the week before and said you could tell Essendon weren't in the game during their warm-up against Frio. We got Belted by Collingwood at 100 points and a half. That shouldn't happen. It shouldn't happen.

Chapter 3: What changes in player positions did Brad Scott implement and why were they criticized?
That's why Brad Scott's no longer there.
Yep, I think that's a pretty fair summary of why he's no longer there. Ron, thank you for having your say. Mark's in Epping. Welcome to you, Mark. G'day, Gerard.
I agree with everything that last Bomber supporter said. I thought you were supposed to watch the games, Gerard. Have you seen Essendon play this year? Yeah, I've called numerous games that they've played. So can you tell me how you think they turn up when the game's on? Are they trying? Do they look connected? Do they know what they're doing? You tell me, Mark. Definitely not.
The team is rudderless. This bloke was brought in to teach us to play team defence. We get cut to pieces every week. I understand that there wouldn't be one incident supporter today who's disappointed with this decision. I'll be listening all day to hear one Essendon supporter who says they're upset with this decision today. This club needs a big kick up the backside.
And you said what will be gained out of this for the rest of the season. Everyone at that club will get a reality check. Most importantly, the players. This is not acceptable. And if I hear anyone say this is a bad decision, you have no idea about football.
Yes. Were you of the belief, as we're of absolute belief, that Brad will be our next premiership coach? Were you feeling that way?
Definitely not. But what are you wanting to say? Every supporter hopes their current coach will be their next premiership coach.
There was enough evidence not to say anything, Mark. We knew from the second game of the season. We knew. So don't say anything.
Keep your options open.

Yeah, look, Brad is part of his strategy, right? He's totally aligned. Where I sit, absolutely, Brad Scott's going to be our coach. So you're 1-9 at the moment. If you go to 1-12, are you having a conversation around Brad's tenure? Oh, look, I'm not into sort of speculation. Our focus at the moment is to continue to build and develop our players and that's not going to happen overnight.
So we set a strategy and we're going to stick to it.
1-10, it didn't need 1-12. That was Tim Roberts, the chief executive of the Bombers. It was his first media appearance. Nobody asked him to say it. He came out last week and said it. My word is oak. Not really when it comes to anyone at Essendon. Frank is in Wonturna. Hello to you, Frank.
It's been a pretty hectic 24 hours with Neil Denner. Now the coach is gone. I knew that was going to happen. It was just a matter of time. But you could see it with the players. They weren't playing with a passion. If you look at what... I remember when Neil Denneher was playing, you know, the passion that guy put into his game when he was playing.
And I always remember that Carlton game where we were five goals down with about five or six minutes to go or something. And he virtually won the game off his own boot, you know, kicking a couple of those goals there. But the passion, you know, this is what happens is... Brad Scott can teach all he can with all his running drills and all the rest of it.

Chapter 5: How do supporters feel about the future direction of Essendon after Scott's departure?
But you've got to teach people to play with passion. And that's the thing which was lacking at Essendon. People weren't playing. You've got to get into the players' heads. You're playing for the red and black. You've got to put in. You're wearing a special jumper. And we expect effort when you put that jumper on. And this is what is not happening today.
And this is why it was worrying me was a lot of the younger players, not the senior players, but the younger players weren't showing improvement. And that's where I think everybody realised this guy's not doing the job. And that's why I think he had his chance. And that's why he had to go. As simple as that.
Yep. Frank, thank you for your assessment. The young players actually have been improving. It's been the older players. And I think back on what Luke Hodge reflected on a few weeks back is what are they being taught at the moment in terms of the future leadership of the club? Frank, thank you. Ronnie's in Glen Iris. Welcome, Ronnie.
Hi, Gerard. Look, I'm a troubled Essendon supporter. I can understand the decision three and a half years in, still bottom four in all defensive metrics, too many players regressing, no discernible game plan and some selection integrity issues. But my main point is about the board and the text you read out. touched on this.
The decision to extend Scott to a fifth year, two years into a four year contract with no get out clause is just utterly irresponsible. I thought it at the time and now it's going to cost the club a million dollars and that's paid for by the members.
In the corporate world, people would lose their jobs over this, and it's just incredibly frustrating as a supporter, notwithstanding that I think they've made the right decision today. Thank you.
Ronnie, thank you. Thanks for having your say. Luke's in Airport West. Welcome to you, Luke.
Hey, Gerard. How are you going, mate?
I'm well, thank you.

Chapter 6: What are the implications of Brad Scott's coaching decisions on player development?
Yes, John, that is a way of looking at it from the outside, certainly. Yeah, Jordan Lewis and you on the same page there. Thanks, John. Lynn's in Elsternwick. Welcome to you, Lynn.
Yes. This is a first-time caller with you as well. Oh, welcome. My concern, Maurice, I'm happy Brad Scott's gone. I was surprised when he was given an extended contract. because I couldn't see the development of the younger players.
Yes. The marker of this year has been the development of the younger players, hasn't it? The problem has been with the senior players.
Well, yes, I agree with some of the senior players, and I can understand why Zach Merritt wanted to leave, because of the fact that... So... We've got Archie May-Wicks. We've got, sorry, Archer May. We've got Sharp come in. Caddy, Kako. I mean, they're all going to be very good players. But who develops them? You know, they're for our future.
I mean, the senior players, some of them I would have gotten rid of anyway. You've got McKay down back. He's played two good games that I've seen in the time he's been here. I mean, unfortunately, we've had Ridley that's been injury prone, you know, for a long time. Once he's in back there, you can see the difference in the defence. You know, I mean... But my biggest concern is the coaching.
I mean, Zach Merritt is, at the moment... developing Farrow and also Roberts, you know, and both of them are commented, you know, they've improved. Farrow's going to be brilliant on the back line now.
Yeah, yeah. So thank you, Lynne. Even in what you've said there is the development of the younger players is there. Roby, Farrow, Roberts, Sharp, Caddy, Kakko. May's not quite as young, but he's developed really well. So to my eye, that's not where the problem has been. The problem has clearly been with the engagement of the senior group. Trav's in Beveridge. Hello to you, Trav.
Yeah, g'day. How are you, mate? Good. Just two things quickly. One is I think it's absolutely disgusting, the timing of this. I think there's no need for the second interview to have come out today, considering what's happened with Danaher. This should be his couple of days, considering what he's contributed.
And the decision, whether it be today or next week for Essendon, isn't going to change a single thing. So I wonder if they've done a prime sneak under the radar and go, well, this is a good time because everyone's going to be talking about Danaher, not Essendon. So pretty disgusted with that.
