I don't know if you've been listening about the goal-kicking debate that we've been having this week a little.

How are you? Yes, I often listen in. I put the app on while I'm out working in the garden or whatever I'm doing and listen in and enjoy the cause. It gives you, for somebody in the media, it gives us, well, you're at the coalface of it, but for somebody who's not doing daytime radio, it gives you... a perception and a listening to the masses as to the feel out in supporter land and what they think and what they feel. And I was really intrigued by some of the calls about goal kicking and the theories on it and the likes. And it's something which has always been a specific study area of mine and the way people or players kick the ball. So I came up with a list of top types of kicks because It's not just who's the best kick.
It's a little bit like cricket. Who's the best cricketer? Is it a batsman or is it a bowler? There's different categories. So I've broken it up, and I know most of the talking was about the kicking at goal. So if you want to take – I'll start at the bottom of the categories. Ackermanis is the best non-dominant kicker of the footy on the non-dominant side. I just think he was extraordinarily good. The best overall rounded field kicks who could do it, I cannot split them, and that means right foot, left foot, make the ball sing, make the ball swing when you need to swing it around opponents, kick it hard and fast at a leading target, or drop it softly over the head of a defender into the running path of a full forward.
The two blokes, I can't split them, is Darren Jarman and Dougie Hawkins. Dougie Hawkins... I think not that we've hurt his legacy, but because he's such a lovable character from the footy show days, we forget just what an awesome, serious, all-time great he was, whose kicking is at the very top of the tree, I think, with Darren Jarman for all-round kicking. If you said to me, lead out of the goal square, lead from centre-half forward and have somebody put the ball out in front of you, You have the choice of every player you've ever seen. I'd say put the ball in the hands of a bloke called Darren Pritchard. And for the one that you've spoken about this week as to goal kicking and the techniques, it used to be for me Peter McKenna was the best action set shot at goal I have ever seen.
And you've got to be in your 60s to remember Peter and seeing him live. But I think the blokes knocked him off. And if you needed any further proof, go back to late last week. Taylor Walker, I think now, from what I have seen, is the best set shot at goal. His technique, the rhythm he gets, the strike of the ball, and the sweetness with which he actually times it. I think he could be... just might be the best kick at goal I have seen.
That's high praise, but I can't argue with you, Derm. I think that they've probably got a couple of standard setters at the Crows. Darcy Fogarty's a really good kick at goal, so they're probably, in terms of standard setters, I wouldn't mind knowing how much Tex actually practices, or is it because of the greatness and longevity of his career? He has been able to refine his craft to the point that he is the best that's, if not at the moment, or ever been.
