Oh, Gerard, thank you for having me, mate. It was a fantastic night here in Ostrava, so there's plenty to celebrate. tell us about the race itself yeah look it's an intriguing distance 150 meters you rarely see it in fact you rarely see it on the bend usually they'll do this race in Europe and it's just on a pure straight 150 meters but this time we're on the bend and yeah look he's a 200 meter runner he runs 100s the 150 was always going to be interesting but he was up against Noah Lyles the king of sprinting and he came out yesterday he was confident he was ready to go and break the world record and he did just that and following along with him was Gout Gout, who runs, I think now, the fourth fastest time ever over the 150, and it's a world under 20 best.
So it's a great night for the young Australian.
So by his own reaction, this was both a relief and a bit reassuring after what had happened previously.
Yeah, absolutely. I think so. I mean, look, Oslo, of course, it was a little nerve wracking. It's his first time racing in the open ages, the majors of the Diamond League, and he's the second youngest to ever do it.
How did Gout Gout perform against Noah Lyles?
So I think there's always something attached to that. But today, he just looked confident. He felt relaxed. He had a little bit more spring in his step. He looked like that gout gout we all know and love. And, geez, I asked him after, I said, is it a little bit of a weight off the shoulders? He said, yeah, it is. And it's the race that he was looking for, and it's the race that he got.

He does. He does. You just know that the last 50 is going to be so strong, but you're waiting for that start to really connect. He got a better one today, which he was encouraged by. His coach was encouraged by. His manager was encouraged by, which is great. But you're right. He's sort of wolfing them down, isn't he? He's just bringing them back to him.
What insights does Mitch Dyer share about Gout Gout's racing style?
You're never really going to see him leading out of the first 50 to 100 metres. But yeah, he was sharper than what he was in Norway.
He clearly has this great relationship with Noah Lyles. What have you observed?
Yeah, he's like a big bro to him, I think, Noah Lyles. I mean, look, Noah Lyles is the showman. He rolled into the press conference yesterday with a WWE belt that him and his training group all exchange, whoever's the fastest sprinter. So, you know, he comes in with this big bravado and he's very rash and bash. I think he's actually fantastic for the sport, but I think he offers Gowt some sage advice, right? He'll tell him what he needs to know. He'll tell him what he thinks he needs to know. And He takes it on board and they had this celebration ready. I said, mate, they go over the line and they're already dapping up. They're slapping hands. They knew exactly where each other were going to be. I said, have you planned it?
He said, nah, I didn't plan it. But he's right there at the right time. The really, really good guy for him to have in his corner, no matter where he travels around the world. It's brilliant.
So we're still relatively early in the season. What does it do to the whole circuit to have Noah Lyles run a world record?
Yeah, look, I think it's... It's pretty standard as the years go on. Noah Lyles doing something amazing. I mean, over the 150, I think people will go, okay, we don't see that distance a great deal. So I think what they would have been looking for is the form of Noah Lyles. How well is he finishing these races? What does it actually look like? Because the time given it hasn't been raced a great deal.
