திக்கி திணறும் Voyager 1 | Voyager's latest health report| zenith of science

Voyager 1, despite its remarkable success and longevity, has faced some challenges and issues during its mission. Here are a few notable points: Power Decline: As Voyager 1 is powered by radioisotope thermoelectric generators (RTGs), the spacecraft's power output has been gradually decreasing over the years. This decline affects the ability to operate certain instruments and systems. Instrument Shutdowns: To conserve power and extend the mission life, NASA has selectively turned off some of Voyager 1's instruments. While essential instruments continue to function, others have been deactivated to prioritize the spacecraft's overall health. Communication Distance: As Voyager 1 moves farther away from Earth, the signal travel time increases. This results in longer communication delays, making real-time commands and data retrieval challenging. It currently takes more than 21 hours for signals to travel between Voyager 1 and Earth. Limited Data Transmission Rate: The aging technology on board limits the data transmission rate. Transmitting large amounts of data back to Earth is a slow process, and scientists must carefully prioritize the information they want to receive. Temperature Challenges: The extreme cold temperatures in the outer reaches of the solar system affect the spacecraft's systems. However, the design of Voyager 1 has allowed it to endure these harsh conditions for an extended period. Limited Propulsion: Voyager 1 doesn't have traditional thrusters for propulsion; instead, it relies on attitude control thrusters. Over time, these thrusters have been used less frequently to conserve fuel, and NASA has had to implement alternative methods for orientation control. Despite these challenges, Voyager 1 continues to operate and send valuable data back to Earth. Its mission has far exceeded expectations, and scientists and engineers have implemented innovative solutions to overcome the limitations posed by the spacecraft's age and distance from Earth.
