06 Sep 2022

Description

The traffic lights are going to be upgraded. Many netizens are very unhappy with the light changes. 而且,netizens complain the lights have many rules(抱怨有太多规则),the red and green lights are on at the same time(红绿灯会同时亮起),这对于司机来说,it is more difficult to drive safely(安全驾驶更加困难)。*upgrade /ˈʌpɡreɪd/ v. 升级*palace /ˈpæləs/ n. 宫殿*complain /kəmˈpleɪn/ v. 抱怨网友吐槽的另一点是,“新版红绿灯”uses only round lights(只使用圆灯),removes the countdown(取消了倒计时读秒),这就很容易cause anxiety and trouble(制造焦虑和麻烦)。但很快,the rumor was refuted(官方就来辟谣了)!官方回应说,其实这个“新国标红绿灯”,早在2017年7月1日就开始实施,in recent years the traffic light has been piloted in various places(这几年在各地已陆续试点)。*remove /rɪˈmu:v/ v. 掉头:make a U-turn直行:drive straight ahead闯红灯:run a red light扣分:a point deduction(“你扣分了”You have points taken off your license./They deducted points from your license.)罚款:a fine(“你被罚款了”You receive a fine.)早高峰/晚高峰:rush hour/ morning traffic or evening traffic堵车:traffic jam(“因为堵车我迟到了”I was late because of a traffic jam.)十字路口:intersection斑马线:pedestrian crossing/crosswalk*deduction /dɪˈdʌkʃ(ə)n/ n. 扣除*receive /rɪˈsi:v/ v. 收到*intersection /ˌɪntərˈsekʃn/ n. 十字路口*pedestrian /pəˈdestriən/ n. 国外的红绿灯什么样美国的traffic lights are very similar to China(和中国的很像)。 他们的红绿灯通常是there is no countdown for drivers(机动车走的路没有倒计时),但是the crosswalk will have a countdown(人行横道有倒计时)。在大多数的rural areas(乡村地区),没有红绿灯, just have a stop sign(只有一个交通路牌)。 2 lanes for drivers to use(2条车道,1个方向一条),就会使用road signs(交通路标),这样比使用stop lights会便宜。 水平的l  areas that have too many lights 有的地方有多个红绿灯 4. Many of the traffic laws are the same in China. 比如说,when you come to an intersection(在十字路口), 大多数的地方,你可以turn right during a red light(即便是红灯,也可以右转),unless there is a sign telling you not to(除非有指示牌告诉你不要右转)。再比如,对于pedestrians(行人)来说,当cross the street(过马路)的时候,need to use the crosswalk(要走人行横道)。 The cost depends on where you live. 比如说, in California you can receive a fine from $25 to $250(在加利福尼亚的话,罚款金额25-250美金不等)。*jaywalk /ˈdʒeɪwɔ:k/ v.乱穿马路(不遵守交通规则)国内开车和国外开车有2 major differences(2个很大的不同):第一个不同是在使用turn signals(转向灯)方面:8年前,Sarrah刚来中国时,发现many cars and buses don’t always use their turn signal(很多车和公交不打转向),这让她感到shocked。现在,with more cameras at stop lights these days(许多交通信号灯上有了更多的摄像头),这种情况已经好多了。另一个不同就是在speed(车速)上:American drivers speed more than Chinese drivers. 但是,很多警察都are sneaky(会暗中躲藏),他们will hide around corners or off the road(会躲在角落或远离道路),为的就是catch speeding drivers(抓超速司机)。然后他们就会chase you down, pull your car over(追你,让你靠边停车),通常还会give you a speeding ticket(给你一张超速罚单)。*sneaky /ˈsni:ki/ adj. 罚款单但也有的时候,警察让你靠边停车,你可以avoid getting a ticket(避免收罚单),可能是因为you are polite(你很有礼貌),或者说你犯的是a minor offense(小错)。虽然没有被罚,但这也是very stressful, 所以我们应该always try to follow the driving rules(要遵守交通法规),不要存侥幸心理。*offense /əˈfens/ n.
