Do I change to another British gas tariff and lock in a price for a year and get stuck with them? Because obviously I can't go anywhere else without paying the £50 fee for each gas and electric. You are getting the discount, you're getting the direct debit discount, you're not paying the 8% premium. Some firms offer it, some firms don't. Now the questioner says British Gas don't. I thought they did, but I think it isn't written in their general systems. I think you have to call up and ask them to go on variable direct debit.
