Good morning, everybody. This is a proud board of County Commissioners meeting of Tuesday, January 28th, 2025. Happy New Year. Please rise for the Pledge of Allegiance. And Kim, welcome back. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the
United States of
America, and to
the
republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Please remain standing. It is customary that we observe a moment of silence in honor of notable persons from our community who have recently passed. Colleagues, does anyone have someone you wish to remember? I'll start with Commissioner McKenzie.
I do, Mayor. Just a couple folks. I want to recognize Randy Perkins, who died at the age of 60 from ash brit, who actually I dealt with ash brit back in Pompano Beach days. REALLY BUILT THE BUSINESS FOR 32 YEARS AND RECENTLY HAS PASSED AWAY. SO WE WANT TO KEEP HIM, HIS FAMILY, IN OUR PRAYERS. AND OF COURSE, I'M SURE OTHER COLLEAGUES WILL TALK ABOUT GOVERNOR MCKAY AND JIMMY CARTER, BUT I WANT A PERSONAL NOTE, AND I KNOW THAT OUR NATALIE MOFFETT, DIRECTOR OF FAMILY SUCCESS ADMINISTRATION, RECENTLY PASSED AWAY. SO I WANT TO KEEP SURE THAT OUR FAMILY HERE, WE KEEP IN OUR PRAYERS WITH THEM. SO THANK

Oh, yeah, that's right, and Mr. Grissett, you want to cover that? No, you can. The Grissett family, we lost a very important leader in Pompano, and Grissett family was very instrumental in building our Northwest community, and it's very successful, and I just want to continue. One of his family members actually works for us here in Broward County, Eddie Grissett, so keep them in prayer as well.
And I'll
just add to because we share the same saying up this way he had that whole city our blue another pillar in the Cargill City community as a matter of fact that firehouse that we're doing the nonprofit DEAL WITH IS RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM OUR HOUSE, BUT A LONGTIME COMMUNITY ADVOCATE, A FRIEND OF MY DAD'S, AND WE'LL MISS HIM. HE WILL BE MISSED. THANK YOU.
COMMISSIONER RICH. THANK YOU. I JUST WOULD LIKE TO ASK US TO REMEMBER FORMER GOVERNOR BUDDY MCKAY. I TELL YOU, WHEN I READ ALL OF THE DIFFERENT OBITUARIES THAT WERE IN THE PAPER FROM THE from the editorials and people that have known him for many, many years, including myself. It's really a great loss, a man like that, who gave so much to this state, such a thoughtful, kind man, directed at policy always, and it didn't matter what party, what anything. He was the same to all people. And I want to just bring up, it's an interesting thing, I had an experience way back with, when Kendrick Meek, Representative Kendrick Meek was working for, he went to work, he was actually with the law enforcement at the time.
State Trooper, correct. And he actually drove Anne McKay and I to a hippie program in Dade County at the time, because that's home instruction for preschool youngsters, if anybody might not know that. Not hippies. A hippie program. And I'll never forget, he was so interested in that, in early childhood education, and Ann came, and we talked, and I talked to Kendrick many times about that, and he just never forgot those days, because he just grew up with... with that kind of a person as a mentor. And he was a mentor to so many people, including myself. And he is a great loss to our community and indeed the state. Commissioner Boone.
