And we were requesting comments on those. by tomorrow, end of the day, so that um Kate can kind of look them over. And the plan is to bring those items back for discussion at the May seventh meeting. These are familiar faces for you guys right now. But we have our fire marshal, Chief Kiger, with us. We have Dan Irley and Lee Stormer also from the office. And um they are here to talk about uh what you all probably are aware of. It's There's an existing code modification in the FSM that says the minimum twenty foot wide width for roadways can be. inclusive of shoulders um as opposed to exclusive of shoulders. So I'm not gonna steal their thunder. I'm gonna defer to Chief and let him start us off.

I guess the question is, do you have some pictures as we go through this? I'll have Supervisor Stormer, uh, if you've got those, to kind of reference some of these things. So those of you all that don't know me, my name is Micah Kiger. Uh I am currently the fire marshal for Loudoun County. Um, so I I will be very blunt that I don't go looking for work. I just don't. Uh I will address things as they are brought to my attention. And this is one item that to be perfectly honest with you was never on my radar at all. Uh there's a concern with maintenance of uh Shoulders for fire apparatus access roadways. So we did a little bit of digging. It was brought to me by staff of some of the problems that they were seeing with these.

And we kind of got into uh almost kind of a conundrum uh with it. Is we are allowing in Loudoun County a blanket modification. That is less restrictive than state code. And

My interpretation of that is exactly the reason why we're bringing it to the attention of this group today is that's not a great place for the county to be as far as risk and liability is concerned, uh for us to have a blanket modification uh for for all conditions. Uh with that in mind is uh we started working with the committee or uh with the county staff uh to kind of look into this and provide recommendations. And it's very interesting that uh well it's really not interesting at all, but interesting in the fact of where one word can change so many things. And uh that word is inclusive or exclusive. Uh so with that in mind, uh I'm gonna have Supervisor Stormer uh talk through uh some of these examples that that he himself or our staff have actually witnessed as kind of the problem statement on why we're why we're bringing it up today.

The biggest part of it is that maintenance of the sides of the road is that they're supposed to be Compacted Gravel sides of the roads so it keeps the width proper.
