We are now on to item 3A, and that is to proclaim July 21st to July 27th, Pretrial Probation and Parole Supervision Week. Can I get a motion? So moved, Madam Chair. Second. Second. All right. These supervision programs in Prince William help minimize unnecessary exposure to the criminal justice system by allowing court-involved individuals to stay within their communities. The employees who supervise these individuals are a vital part of our justice system in protecting the safety of our citizens, providing support and services to victims, and providing rehabilitative justice and services to their charges to reduce recidivism. Without their efforts, we would not be able to provide the opportunity to keep people in their communities when possible. These officers are what make our safe and secure community go impossible. I hereby am proud to proclaim July 21st to July 27th, 2024, Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week.

Thank you, Chair Jefferson and members of the board. On behalf of criminal justice services, state probation and parole, the 31st District Court Service Unit, and the Juvenile Pretrial Service Program at Office of Youth Services, we are happy to accept this proclamation and are appreciative of the recognition from the board. Supervision officers strive to reduce recidivism, break the cycle of crime, and contribute to community restoration by incorporating the use of evidence-based practices to assist those under our supervision make positive changes in their lives. Currently in Prince William County, we have over 4,000 individuals who may otherwise be incarcerated and supervision officers manage to effectively supervise these individuals in the community.
We are appreciative of this recognition to the dedicated officers who provide vital public safety services to the citizens of Prince William County.

All right, Supervisor Bailey? Thank you, Madam Chair. Madam Chair, I just wanted to make sure that this was acknowledged. This is an item that we have continually worked on in the Potomac District as it relates to previously in 2018, 2019, it being pulled from the bond referendum in 2019. And so we're moving forward. There was a public hearing driven by the Transportation Department and I really appreciate that to keep the community involved and get their views on what we need to do and how they'd like for us to move forward. But this is the smart scale in reference to that discussion held at Henderson Elementary School. So with that, I do move it forward, but I just wanted to make mention of that and thank the Transportation Department for just walking us through each step as it relates to the Van Buren extension, not being on the bond referendum, but moving forward as such.
