This afternoon we are welcome or excited to invite uh a gentleman from um that we all know, Conti, uh, and he's from Council of Government, and Conti is here to present to us uh a presentation on DMV moves. Conti, if you would come forward, please, and thank you for joining us.

Thank you. Thank you, uh Madam Chair and members of the board. Uh very nice to see so many of you that in in a different setting. Uh Uh Chair Jefferson, of course you sit on the COG board and the transportation planning board and I serve on both of them. And Mr. Angry, uh Kenny Body, uh And of course Miss Bailey uh And Mr. Stewart and Mr. Gordy, I understand he's not here as well. So I'm very pleased to be here today. I'm here to share uh provide this board an update on the conclusion of a task force that the Council of Governments had set up jointly with WAMATA and then to give you a status on where we are today and uh what we are hoping would be uh the next steps. So with that, um I'll start with Members, you are very aware that this region continues to be one of the most attractive regions in the country.

Even in bad times, this region has consistently seen growth, growth in jobs, growth in population, growth in households. And we are projecting at the Council of Governments the same to continue. In the next 25 years, we anticipate adding another 1.25 million people to our region. That is the size of Austin, or that's the size of Pittsburgh, if we uh if we want to have the sense of how many uh people we might have and and and the growth in households. But we also plan to add uh estimate adding about eight hundred Yeah. So that is the attraction of our region. Uh people tend to come in here for a variety of things, but all of this underpins the economic growth that we in this region are anticipating. Obviously, one of the key things in ensuring that this anticipated growth happens is providing a number of amenities, whether it is housing, whether it is education, whether it is healthcare, but certainly transportation being critical, not just for their commute purposes, but for businesses and for uh other uh living purposes.

So Ін that context, this region really Ye being the world's or the nation's capital for for sure, but it is also one of the most powerful world capitals. certainly deserves a world class transit system. And um honestly all of the member jurisdictions have had that foresight and there has been a significant investment over the past fifty years. Womata is celebrating fifty years today. uh VRE, uh MARC and all of the member jurisdictions in our region have their own bus services. We have a very large, extensive uh services for people with disabilities and older adults. Um so the region has a lot to show for building a transit system and we have multiple choices and there are some facts here that I won't get into, but just I earlier I spoke about the economic impact of of the e economic attractiveness of our region.
