So... Pardon me, I'm kind of new at this. But welcome to the bicycle and pedestrian advisory committee meeting for October. And I should have said this two minutes ago, but we started at about 4.02. We will move on to the public presentation section of our meeting. This part of the meeting is reserved for persons to address the bicycle and pedestrian advisory committee on any matter not on the agenda that is within the subject matter jurisdiction of the committee. The law does not permit action on or extended discussion of any item not on the agenda, except under special circumstances. The commission or staff may briefly respond to statements made or questions posed, and the commission may request staff to report back at a subsequent meeting.

My name is Roberta Cadwallader and I live in the Monroe Cabrillo area off of Fordham. I can't count the number of times children have been riding on the sidewalk and expect me to move. I'm a senior, I have arthritis. I shouldn't be the one moving. Their parents are telling them that they have the right to drive on the sidewalk when apparently the city has regulations stating that there's no bicycle riding on the sidewalks. So what do we do? Can the schools tell them not to ride on the sidewalk? Because we seniors are in danger. And this is ridiculous that we have to look out for bicycle riders while we're walking our dogs or just walking. I'm really concerned for anybody that's walking on the sidewalk.

Yeah, this is Member Kratz. Question of the staff on that issue that was just presented in public presentations. Can you clarify what the city codes are on bicycle riding on sidewalks? My understanding is that it is not allowed, though it is not enforced by the police department. Can you clarify that for me and the member of the public?

Steve Chan, transportation manager. So I believe that is correct. I recently discussed this with our city police department and looked into the city ordinance is currently not permitted to ride on my bicycle on the city sidewalk. And as you mentioned, Police department are not actively enforcing bicycling on the sidewalk. They're primarily primarily using this to investigate or activity on the sidewalk.
