And so this is just not something Congress is used to withstanding more than once a decade.

It's to counter Texas, one, from a strategic level of trying to offset the seats that the Republicans are potentially going to gain.

But it's also to send a message and it's we're not unilaterally disarming.

And so it's and just to keep in mind, a lot of blue states in the last 20 years moved for legislation to have black

bipartisan, independent redistricting.

So Democrats are actually having to dismantle some of those laws to move forward.

And it is just it is not something I heard Democrats even entertaining two months ago.

But because of what's happening in Texas, they're willing to do things they were not willing to do just a few weeks ago.

Back in 2006, in Ohio and Pennsylvania, in the midterms where Democrats did really well, they picked up a bunch of seats.

And it was because the Republicans who drew those maps in 2001 were overly aggressive.

And it left their Republican incumbents with the votes thinned out too many, like too far apart in each district.

And so it is playing with fire.

You're putting your incumbents in a very vulnerable position if the political winds change or if demographics change.

And so-

I think it would be less immediate, these sorts of consequences this cycle and maybe in 2028, 2030.

But it's adding a lot of instability.

A lot of seats everyone assumed were safe may not be safe in different circumstances with these new maps that are being proposed.

Redistricting is one of the most niche topics in politics, and usually the people who are experts in it, their relevance is once every 10 years.
