A federal jury found SCOTUS blog co-founder Thomas Goldstein guilty of 12 of 16 counts of tax and mortgage fraud after a six-week trial in Maryland.
Goldstein was charged with failing to pay taxes on gambling income, and prosecutors say he hid millions of dollars in poker wins and losses from the government.
He was accused of diverting legal fees for his law firm to his personal bank account to satisfy gambling debts, among other crimes.
Goldstein argued more than 40 cases before the Supreme Court before his retirement in 2023 and was part of the legal team that represented Democrat Al Gore in lawsuits over the 2000 election.
A sentencing date has not been set.
