Like, you know, unless you are in a family of solicitors, you know solicitors quite well, especially kind of general practice or criminal solicitors, or you have a family member who's gone through the criminal justice system, you don't really interact with it.
Many people will never interact with the criminal solicitors.
justice system in their lives and so the cut through is difficult and I suppose there is you know and I am going to get married to a solicitor so I'm sometimes on their side of course.
He doesn't take that into consideration.
And we're in the middle of the EU presidency, which is already stretching our security resources already.
So it could be quite the awkward embarrassment for both parties.
the government and the president if they're caught in any of that quandary with hosting him essentially.
It's already deterred women and it's, you know, it has.
And any politician I've ever asked, because I do ask about it anytime I interview a female politician, would you encourage other women to get into politics?
What's your own experience of social media abuse or online abuse or, you know, in-person abuse?
And whether and like, I mean, I was speaking to Minister Helen McEntee about it recently, and she said, I've already heard from women who have said that it has put them off.
So women who you would like to see in public life and a diversity of opinion, personality, perspectives, upbringings.
It's not all about male and female as well, or even, you know, you're ethnically diverse, but it's about having a diverse experience of life.
And some people...
the political system as well particularly in their 40s at a time when they might be having families and stuff but I suppose my point about it is that like so there's an idea of politicians or like people who can you know cut the mustard in cut and thrust of politics and that it's a hard game and it's hard won and hard fought
Sometimes not everyone follows that same formula and that doesn't mean that they're not able for it.
And it's a shame that you can be intimidated out of it because you might not think you're able for it.
And that's what's happening with some of these voices and people that are in politics and get into politics or aren't.
...are around this political sphere... ...who are peddling some of these narratives... ...and some of this rhetoric around women... ...and they're the ones then that are in politics... ...rather than people who have a diversity of opinion... ...or approach to things... ...and I suppose... ...the really sinister thing... ...is even just in Ireland... ...people don't understand... ...how much access you have to your politicians...
Like in any other country in the world, these people are not someone that you meet every day.
