You need these models to become so capable that they create this sort of new AGI or artificial intelligence or some kind of new capacity.

But that intelligence explosion alone doesn't cure cancer, it doesn't fight wars, it doesn't reorganize a logistic system or a financial system.

For that, you need to do something with this intelligence.

The gamble that China might be making is that it sees itself as, okay, we can trail the frontier, exactly as James says, by two months, by three months, and so on.

We can be a little bit less capable when it comes to the model itself, because we know that when that intelligence explosion happens, when AGI, if it ever does arrive, we will be able to convert that intelligence into military capacity, into economic capacity.

We're going to be able to deploy this into robotic.

Artics much faster than the US will, and therefore we win the race anyway.

Everybody's AI is now out there hacking everybody else's.

There are already rules against computer misuse and cyber and so on.

So can regulation do something about this?

Well, yeah, absolutely.

I think not only can we already regulate some of the effects of misuse or use of of AI in this way, but yeah, but we so we already we already do that.

Can we go further?

I I think yes.

I think governments absolutely can.

And I think they've the already in in quite as

sort of haphazard way, both the US and China have shown uh a willingness to restrict the availability of certain kinds of models or certain uses to the public or to anyone else.

The the challenge, I think, at the moment is one of transparency.

Uh you know, these stories do keep coming out, and there is, I think, a knowledge gap here.
