Like, I didn't even know what asexuality was.

I'd never heard that word.

So to have a story about...

that experience at that age would have completely changed my life.

And I can't even really imagine it now because there still aren't really that many stories like that about asexuality.

But yeah, it would have completely blown open my world and my own understanding of myself.

So yeah, it would have been amazing.

Absolutely.

So I was approached by a guy called Patrick who works for Cecil Films.

He's, you know, since the beginning, he's now been the person I work most closely with on the adaptation.

And he had read Heartstopper and he really loved it.

And he wanted to work with me to make a TV show.

This was in like 2019.

And then...

We worked on it together.

It was basically just us two working together for a year or a year and a half, coming up with what this show could look like.

I started writing the scripts just to see if I could, because I'd never written a script before.

And yeah, that all progressed really well.

And we eventually got to the point where Netflix came on board.

They were really excited about it.
