I can't say that I modeled any of the characters on a particular person,

But particularly Theo reminded me of my brother who died a few years ago.

He's younger than me, but he was my hero in life, my best friend, my mentor in so many things, my spiritual guide.

And I realize now maybe in hindsight that I was channeling my brother's life into the old man.

But I really fell in love with the characters, and that surprised me a lot.

That's right.

It was not even partially formed.

And you just were hoping something would bubble up.

That's right.
