And then stress is another big one, and this is where the gut-brain connection really becomes obvious.
When you're stressed, and Dr. Navidi just explained how this works, your gut becomes more sensitive, so normal digestion can feel louder and more uncomfortable.
You might notice pressure more, you may feel full more quickly, or your appetite might just swing as well.
So nothing's wrong, it's just that your gut can be more activated because of your more activated nervous system.
And then poor sleep and dehydration play in as well.
So even one night of poor sleep or mild dehydration plays
can slow down your digestion or make it less efficient the next day.
And all these little things add up this time of year.
The holidays can bring a lot of them in at once and symptoms can just feel more unpredictable.
So our goal is not to not enjoy the holidays.
Our goal is not perfection, but it's being aware of what the biggest triggers are for you so that you know how to support yourself.
So let me first share a couple nutrition strategies.
During the holidays, we don't want to be overly restrictive.
We want to enjoy the holidays.
But what you can do is create more predictability for your gut.
Your digestion loves rhythm.
And so eating at roughly the same times each day helps keep motility steadier and helps prevent that snowball effect where you end up skipping meals, getting overly hungry.
And then eating a large meal toward the end of the day and feeling overly full or uncomfortable.
So one of my favorite things to do is to create what I call a steady bowl, which is where you just have a simple carb.
and simple vegetables and protein and maybe a simple dressing.
