It's so interesting because thinking generously for one hot second about this extreme rubberneck, that is like the participation in dark tourism.
You know, my understanding of rubbernecking is that like, yes, we're like morbidly curious and we're like sicko voyeurs, but also like when we look at our car crash, we're scanning for threats.
We wanna understand if this tragedy is a direct danger to us, mind and body, how can we
Prevent this from happening to us.
But defining dark tourism as challenging as that is, and classifying this as a cult is even harder.
And I think the intentionality and how far you go with it is part of how we understand this as a cult.
And the more very earnestly trying to see, like, what can I learn from this to protect myself?
Like, I don't know that that is what makes this a cult.

Yeah, it kinda reminds me of how like people who are terrified of sharks are some of the most fervently participatory in like shark week.
