So her work kind of starts the beginning of a notion of what we might think of as the illustrated childhood.
And yes, I think that's why she's so important and so influential now.
So just like with most of this, it's very hard to know for sure.
But that book and a lot of her books were selling like hotcakes.
So children were being bought this book for Christmas presents in the first edition of the book that was sold.
Over 20,000 copies were sold.
And if you're thinking about that period of time when people didn't necessarily have very much money, it was actually quite an expensive book to buy.
And yet people were buying it.
People were starting to care.
about fine books and fine things and fine illustration.
And so suddenly this rhyme is out there.
It's out there in many, many people's homes.
It's there on their shelves and then it's getting reproduced and republished and it's going global as well.
So Kate Greenaway, not just her illustrations, but the way the illustrations look is becoming something which is becoming fashionable
not only in England, but particularly in France, where they called it grunerism.
And they really enjoyed this idea of this woman creating, you know, this wonderful style.
And so she was really fashionable.
She was seriously fashionable.
So if something fashionable is then in the public domain with a nursery rhyme, then perhaps that allowed it to go further.
No, I don't think it matters that it's not true.
