seven till like eight or PM or whatever.

So that has been strange.

But I think what happened when Brittany Higgins came forward with her allegations and just the comprehensive freak out in Parliament House over the fact that not only had somebody raised what is a very common experience for a lot of young women devastatingly in Australia, but that all of these other people came out and started saying, yeah, me too.

And power was unable to quash that because the rage was so high at that particular point.

I thought that was really interesting because it really exposed a lot of the divisions within Parliament House and the people who cover it.

had a lot of the male journalists being very uncomfortable with covering this story not because they didn't believe it but because you know civility politics we just don't talk about this sort of stuff and they've always been nice guys to them so it's very difficult to suddenly be all like oh maybe these aren't all very nice guys so that was really revealing I think uh not

Not necessarily to me.

I'm a survivor of sexual assault and I completely understand that, you know, we are all walking around, you know, carrying these invisible cloaks and that the people around us don't necessarily know.

But seeing all of the women immediately say, yes, I understand and I get this culture.

and seeing a lot of the men going, ooh, but this has totally worked out fine for us.

I'm not sure why we suddenly have to change the culture.

What do you mean we can't all go for drinks at this particular bar on a Wednesday night or whatever?

That was really, really revealing in terms of that disconnect where the more that you are of a certain class, the more that you are privileged, the more that you are insulated from real life, the less that you understand when real life comes knocking.

And I think if you wanted to explain the political situation now, it's that real life has, you know, not just come knocking, it is absolutely hounding at the door.

And a lot of people don't know how to respond to it because it's not their problems that are being screamed.

It's other people, the majority of people.

But they're like, this doesn't impact me.

So I'm not sure why this is such a problem.

Can't we just keep doing politics the same way?
