you cannot keep doing politics the same way.
You will see disruption and disruption can be great, but it can also be Donald Trump or Pauline Hanson.
And I don't think that we have fully reckoned with the social tears that we have created in Australian society just yet.
And I'm not sure whether this Labor government is up to the challenge of addressing that, despite the fact that they have all of the room in the world to do so.
Yeah, I definitely didn't grow up in an ABC household.
My family's quite conservative.
So my father voted One Nation from the moment that, you know, Pauline Hanson came on the scene in 1996.
My mother is also quite conservative.
You know, my dad came here from Lithuania in the 1950s after World War II and he adopted the good migrant culture.
cloak very, very early on because that meant survival for him and his mother.
And he was heavily traumatised from his time in displacement camps and then heavily traumatised about arriving in Australia at a time when anti-communism was, you know, running rife and anybody who had a vaguely sounding Eastern European name was assumed to be a communist.
And so my dad went and
the other way and just embraced Liberal Party and then further far-right tendencies.
And my mother grew up in a very poor working-class family in South Australia, in the smaller towns like Millicent and Mount Gambier, where they just owned and managed pubs.
She had me when she was 17 or 18.
My dad is 18 years older than my mother.
Wow.
And so it was...
quite looking back, you know, through adult eyes, like, you know, my mum was a baby who was looking for a bigger wolf at the door than, you know, what she had experienced with her family, which as I'm sure most people would be able to imagine, you know, violence was a big part of her life growing up as it is for a lot of people growing up where alcoholism and
