And that's when he was like, okay, well,
we need to put One Nation last.
It was not a moral decision.
It was not because he was standing against One Nation.
It was because he was worried about what it would do to the Liberal and National Party vote, and he wanted to undercut that.
But at the same time, he wanted to attract One Nation voters, because a lot of them had been Labor voters as well.
and he wanted them in his tent.
And so he pushed the Liberal and National Party out further to the right to attract One Nation, where he was like, oh, we're not going quite as far in the rhetoric, but we sort of agree with what she's talking about.
So the Liberal Party was no longer a broad church.

We're going to look after moderates.
We're going to serve the inner city who want more social progressive, but, you know, economic conservatism.
We're not going to do that anymore.
We are now just going to focus on holding One Nation.
And he was so successful at it that we see the Liberal Party that we see today.
But we also see the longevity of One Nation because Pauline Hanson had a place cemented in Australia's politics because of how John Howard treated her.
And when she came back into the Senate in 2016, he told the Liberal Party they needed to embrace her.
And so now you have the situation where the nationals, who particularly were under pressure because of one nation vote, and it's always been higher in national electorates than it has for the rest of Australia.
They've dragged the Liberal Party so far to the right that they've lost all of their inner city seats.
They don't have a pathway to government there anymore.
