You are creating extra work for yourself because you have to take them out, pile them on the bench, close the dishwasher, open the cupboards, put the plates in.
And I've seen so many homes where this is the case, particularly in smaller homes where you're dealing with smaller floor plan.
And so things do impact on each other.
And so what we'll say is like, let's move the plates.
The plates don't have to be in that spot where they're blocked by the dishwasher.
And I've put plates in upper cabinets.
I've put them in pantries.
Like you just have to think creatively about how you're going to work your kitchen.
So it's path of least resistance.
If you're finding that your children are independent enough to make their own breakfast, but they can't reach the cereal or the Vegemite or the peanut butter, that is not a path of least resistance because they have to come and get help.
Bring those down to a level.
Make them easily accessible.
Make your kitchen work for you in a way.
Think about it strategically.
What am I going to more often?
Who's accessing this?
What's easy to put away from the dishwasher?
My ideal in any kitchen is you stand at the dishwasher and you do not have to move your feet in order to put the dishes away.
So I'm talking the dishes of cutlery, crockery, mugs, glassware, those things that are really high use.
You might have to walk a bit further to put a platter away or a saucepan, but you want to be able to stand there and just pivot and put things away.
